Thanks for the kind words about my last post! It was good to hear from those who reached out, and those who followed the new studio, Ugly Dumpling Studio

Onto my next bit of news:

Most of Knitcircus' yarn bases were custom-milled by spinning mills in the US and Canada in batches of 600-1300 pounds. I currently have hundreds of pounds of custom-milled undyed yarn base sitting in an office in the studio that needs to be cleared out before renovations start. With that in mind, I'm offering for sale on the website the undyed yarn base inventory that I have remaining. The details:

-There are three yarn bases I have remaining in excess. All are wool and wool blends. All the wool content is superwash.

-Skeins can be wound to either 50g or 100g in weight, and sold in packs of four. If you're another Indie dyer looking for bulk yarn base, get in touch and we can talk about pricing.

-Skeins are undyed, unwashed, and tied with loose ties so they'll be ready for your personal dye pots. If you plan to use them undyed, I still recommend washing them with your choice of wool wash before use, as your gauge will change if you knit/crochet with them unwashed.

-These skeins will be wound to order. Depending on the number of orders that are placed for undyed yarn, it may take quite a while for your yarn to be delivered. For the next month I will be spending most of my time moving and finishing up my few custom dyed yarn orders. During construction my skein winding equipment will be moved to the finished half of the studio so that I can continue to wind yarn for the undyed yarn orders, with first shipments of undyed yarn being sent out in early October.

Howdy folks,

It's been a little over a year since I've last posted to any social media site, so unless you get the Knitcircus newsletter or have heard through word-of-mouth you don't know what I've been up to!

In July of last year I made the announcement that I would be retiring Knitcircus, a process that has turned out to be a slow winding down while I finish custom orders and work on 'what's next'.

For the past couple of years I have been working on refurbishing half of the Knitcircus studio into a new community art studio with a focus on printmaking. That studio is Ugly Dumpling Studio, and is officially open! Ugly Dumpling's Instagram and website (www.uglydumpling.art) are the best place to keep up with the studio's events and progress. The photos above are of Ugly Dumpling's workspace. 🙂

Today, after several months of planning, we learned that Ugly Dumpling Studio has been awarded a building grant for refurbishing the second half of the studio! This is exciting in many ways, but daunting in others - namely that Knitcircus officially has to pack up and move out of the studio over the next 6 weeks.

There is an extremely limited amount of yarn left on the website for purchase, so if you'd like to get some of Knitcircus' last-ever dyed yarn, now is the time before I pack things up. It feels strange starting a social media account from scratch these days, but here I am! Search Knitcircus and you should find me.

Bluesky will be Knitcircus's main social media account moving forward. If you look back at my post history here and on Facebook, you'll see that both accounts have had a steep dropoff in volume of posts since Jennifer's departure at the end of September - working by myself I have found that social media is both not my forte, and not a way that most of Knitcircus's fans keep in touch.

I'm hoping that starting from scratch on Bluesky (bye, Meta) will help me curate an audience that is more engaged, and that it will feel less performative and more conversational.

Let's find out together!

I don't have a ton to say about the politics/ethics of social media that hasn't been said already, and I don't have the energy to repeat it for you here. Suffice to say that I, like many people, have been dissatisfied with social media in general, and that recent political discourse and changes to privacy and community guidelines have simply been the final push needed to do something about it.

I have not made final decisions about deleting accounts or content, but if I change anything I'll be sure to post about it ahead of time.

Hot off the needles: A Little Bit October by

When I dyed up Halloween clubs I snuck in a little 50g Ringmaster cake for myself. How could I not??! I was in need of a new hat, and this one couldn't be more perfect.

It's a little bit of a 🥔 picture, it gets dark so early in Madison these days so I had to take it inside. Perhaps I can convince Bat-ley to model? 🤔

I spent a little more time in nature this week, and I highly encourage you to do the same. Take a breath. Have your cry. And then get back to work. (The work is mutual aid, local and state activism and politics, and generally putting your money where it can do good for the least privileged people in your communities, in case that's unclear.)

My existence as a q***r woman of reproductive age is political; don't tell me to keep my politics out of my knitting or business. ✌️
