Happy Birthday to the guy who keeps everything running around here!

He’s our groundskeeper, mechanic, head cow wrangler, chief dishwasher, and chicken tender in training all rolled into one! Whether he’s out on the farm, lending a hand at the mercantile, or fixing just about anything we manage to break, we truly couldn’t do it without him.

We’re so grateful for everything he does for our family and our businesses. We hope his birthday is every bit as wonderful as he is!

And with this dry weather, we figured it’s best not to risk putting all those candles on his cake!

Happy Saturday from Watts Creek Farms & Mercantile!

Whew… it’s been a LONG day around here!

It’s really hard to find good, FREE help… 😂

Today’s lesson: when you leave the egg table to handle another problem, make sure you TURN THE TABLE OFF!

We were busy trying to fix one catastrophe and, well… ended up causing another! The picture pretty much speaks for itself.

The girls are laying, the eggs are coming fast, and there is NEVER a dull moment around here!

Just another day of farm life—fix one problem, create another, clean up the mess, and keep on going!

FUN FACT FRIDAY

Since our girls are keeping us busy these days, we thought we’d share a few fun chicken facts!

A hen can lay around 250–300 eggs a year, depending on her breed and environment.

Chickens can see more colors than humans — they can even see ultraviolet light!

Chickens have over 30 different sounds they use to communicate with each other.

It takes about 24–26 hours for a hen to make an egg from start to finish.

Chickens don’t take water baths like we do — they take dust baths to help keep their feathers clean and control pests.

And yes, chickens dream! They experience REM sleep just like we do.

Our girls may keep us busy, but they sure are interesting. Right now they are 25 weeks old and producing over 10,000 eggs a day.

Our newest bull calf needs a name! His mom is Eyebrows because she has white eyebrows on a mostly black face and they stick out. She’s a cutie and so is her baby.
