I started putting this quilt together and decided I really didn’t like it. Martha said, ”you’ve been looking at it too long”. I needed some thing to “fix it”. I think I may have found the fabric that’s going to make me love this quilt again. I picked up these wonderful threads at Christmas time here in Longmont, at the fiber arts fair. It’s a really wonderful place to pick up all kinds of handmade beautiful gifts.

And this is how I end up with extra squares. At this point some of the squares I made just don’t please, so they go back in the box. If it’s catching my eye in a negative way I audition a new square.

While digging for some fabric, I found that I had pieced squares from another quilt. I started auditioning other possible squares and I think this is my next project. A stash buster for sure.

This cutie is finished and off to the gifter. I liked doing the bows and flowers free motion quilting. On to the next.

Today was about throwing random to the wind. Literally, I took all of the pieces and threw them up and laid them out again. I’ve probably driven my sister crazy for the past two days sending her photos and saying what do you think about this , what do you think about that. So random really did become random. One time laid it out just like you would Tarot cards. I began sewing, no more indecision. And what happen next was I realized I needed to have two more strips, one on the side, one on the bottom to make this little quilt better.  Here also is an example of the ironing necessary.

Today has been about finding random. Putting the blocks in some kind of order and attaching two sides of white. Tomorrow will be sorting the blocks, laying it out in the final pattern. Sewing the top is a few 4-5 hour days. Then sandwich and quilt. It takes between 80-100 hours for a crib quilt. Maybe I’m just slow.

Each center must hit the mark. Each seam is pressed open. Half of sewing is ironing.
