NANA said that these tealight holders were absolutely Gloop and Gleep, from the cartoon series "The Herculoids," way back in the mid-Twentieth Century.

She played a clip from YouTube, and we believer her utterly.

$2 for the set of Gloop and Gleep.

IT'S a story as old as June 16, 1863, the day when the first ratcheting socket wrench was patented.

You have a great tool kit. Part of your set-up is a complete set of sockets and the ratchet handle. You love it. Every time you use a socket, you carefully and intentionally put it back in the correct slot for its size. You and your socket set are blissfully happy together, unaware of the freight train of disaster bearing down on you.

It starts, innocently enough, with your neighbor, Greg, who wants to borrow your 3/4" socket because he "can't find his." The truth is, his brother-in-law borrowed his 3/4" socket two years ago and never brought it back. He might not even have *actually* asked to borrow it, but he knew "Greg wouldn't mind."

Well, Greg, too, forgets to return your socket. It now lives in HIS toolbox.

And that's just the thin end of the wedge. Before you know it, your perfect socket collection looks like a six-year old's mouth when they start losing their baby teeth. Your once harmonious socket set now is in deep emotional pain, as are you.

But there is a way out, without going to a big-box hardware store and buying a new set.

Come to The ReStore and go through our bin of sockets. Sockets are only fifty cents each. (Tex tells us that's "four bits in cowboy talk." Has something to do with Spanish silver Reals apparently.)

Restore peace tranquility and completeness to your ravaged socket set. Do it now, before Greg borrows another socket.

IT'S almost the end of the month. Why is that important?

At the BEGINNING of each month, we compile a list of the items that we purchase and resell--paint, paint and home repair supplies, bedding, pillow, rugs--and CANDY.

We always wait with baited breath to see which candy at the counter sells the most each month.

The overall winner is the Peppermint Pattie, because the bit-size pieces are only a quarter each.

But as far as the full-size candy bars go, Snickers, Payday, and Reese's Peanut Butter Cups slug it out most months for primacy in the confectionary arena.

Who will win for the month of August, 2026?

As you move into your new home, you go through the process of finding where to lay things. First, the bed, to lay yourself on. Then, the dressers and chest, because we realize that top horizontal space is the most important real estate. Then kitchen and bathroom horizontal spaces, and finally, as you develop your lifestyle in the new abode, you have to get around to the living room. Obviously, the TV is first, but after that, you need coffee tables and side tables and end tables for all those little things that are going to (presumably) live there temporarily.

We don't judge. Truman has a stack of DVDs he's "been meaning to get around to seeing" for a couple of years on one of his side tables.

We were having that seventh-inning stretch in the middle of a slow day today, and our spirits were flagging, when Bambi walked inot our ReStore. (okay, she was actually carried, but she's only about three months old, so that's okay).

Now everything is better. Y'know?

Truman states that today is a good day for reclining.

"Strictly speaking," Truman explained, "Reclining just means lying on your back, but we're using an extended definition that means leaning back in a recliner and staying that way for a while. It's definitely not the same as just laying down. You're supported in a whole different way."

"Plus, you can just put your feet up and give them a rest," Truman continued. "But why go halfway?"

(Actually those "di*********es" are acrylic, but otherwise, Tex is spot on.)

Floor lamp, $35.
Table lamps, $50 each.

COLLEEN McCullough wrote the Thorn Birds, and for those of you who were around in the 1980s, the Age of the Miniseries, it was huge, both in book and TV formats.

Well, she could have stopped there and retired to her Australian home, but no, she kept writing books, and these seven books might be her Magnum Opus: The seven-volume series "Masters of Rome," written from 1990 to 2007.

If you're the kind of person who thinks about Ancient Rome every day, you probably should get this series. Just sayin'.

Remember, "the wife of Caesar must be above reproach."
