"They don't make them like they used to" doesn't just have to be about quality. Sure, items from 40, 60, 100 years ago will often outlast the fake vintage from a billionaire big box store . . .

The saying can also be about new items not having memories. "used to" items do. Grandma "used to" use this when you made cookies, Dad "used to" have this next to his chair, I "used to" have this when I was a kid, I "used to" . . .
