On May 6, 2026, I received the news I wasn’t ready to hear, you’re missed and loved dearly mom, Odessa Evans McMillan.

Eric would be pleased to know I took good care of our mom.

Today and the days ahead will be tough but I will cherish the conversations and all the things we discussed as daughter and mother moments.

Many thanks to everyone who traveled near and far, from Cleveland, Ohio, Washington, DC, Maryland, New York for supporting our family during such a very difficult time.

Special thanks to Demetrius Berry, Tonya Crump and Nicole Hayes for creating an exceptional floating room Repasf dinner for mom at the Marriott Springhill Suites which included all of mom’s favorites; including a Dessa’s Dessert Bar.

To my Maryland team for creating the keepsake buttons and 12 page program booklet and my dearest nephew Tamoric Oliver who created mom’s favorite candy bags from Sweet Candy Café that accompanied the program for mom.

With great grief and sadness on Monday morning, May 11th mom took her final flight out of Washington, DC as she journeys back to her home state of North Carolina.

Many thanks to my Shaw University classmate and dear friend Jaime Lamont Bell for walking mom down the aisle during our wedding weekend November 2024. She loved you dearly Jaime just like a son. Thank you for your many acts of kindness and generosity that you have shown my mom, we will never forget it.

Saturday May 16th will be tough for me, it’s extremely hard to see her go, the memories of laughter, disagreements, cooking together, sampling candy and so many more will be cherished for a lifetime.

My southern mom, thank you. I’ll miss you tremendously. Love you today and always.

Remembering when I had to fly my dearest Tim Long from Los Angeles LAX in 2014 to North Carolina, I just can't believe this is happening again.
