I know I haven't posted in quite some time, everything's been a little slow since the season started, which I understand, most people already got their reels cleaned up before the season.

I got this reel in for a mid-season cleanup to get back into the surf action! Cleaned up a bit of sand and some water intrusion but should be good as new now! Ready for more bull reds and maybe some pomps!

Hope everyone's season is going great and I hope to hear from most of you once this season ends, I'd love to get your gear ready for the next season and maybe some wintertime Sheepshead fishing!

I received this Penn Spinfisher V last month and it's been quite fun working on it. So when I clean any reel that I receive, I take every inch of it apart, every screw that come out, it's out. I open it all up. And deep clean it all. I clean your reels like I would mine and I clean mine to last. There are always exceptions. If a reel is to far gone, or if it costs more than the reel is worth, like for parts and all. The spinfisher lineup is an amazing lineup offering a variety of range including live liners (pictured below) and bail-less options. This model below is a little older and doesn't have the best seal around the lower drag system so it's a fairly common problem for the reels live liner drag to kind of stop working at times. This isn't a huge issue and can be fixed pretty easily, that's what I'm doing to this reel in the pictures. Spinfishers are great reels, just wash them down real well and they will last you a lifetime.

Pulled apart this nice Penn Slammer for a good clean!

The Penn Slammer III lineup seems to have a reoccurring issue. The screws attaching the side plate like to wiggle loose. This causes the gears to not fit together perfectly and leads to gears braking and chipping. That was the case on this one. I opened it up, cleaned it up real nice and screwed it back into place. Lock tight is a really great tool to keep those screws in place. If you own one of these, they are a fantastic reel. Very strong and sturdy. Just keep an eye on the screws and you'll never have a problem.
