Last October, I participated in the Loveland Creative District's 1st Annual Trash Fashion Show. We were tasked with creating fashion from trash or discarded items. I used old t-shirts with the District's logo, reflective sign material scraps, paper towel & tissue paper roll tubes and a few other discarded materials to create my Mariposa Sagrada dress. Never did I expect to have my design featured on the cover of a local art magazine. I am overwhelmed with grateful - honored - and a whole host of other feelings/sentiments. My model, Patricia, did a fantastic job showing off my design. I've been collecting materials for this year's trash fashion show and I'm excited to see what the other designers/artists create.

Latest hyperfixation - these scrappy bag charms. Making it up as I go along. 87 made so far from the scraps of other projects. I'd like to embellish them with beads, sequins, charms, and/or perhaps lace/ribbon trim - but I kind of like them as they are. πŸ€”πŸ˜βœ‚οΈπŸͺ‘πŸ§΅πŸ‘œπŸŽ’

My latest memorial request was so sweet and a first for me. Mia had severe allergies and to keep her from scratching herself she would wear baby shirts. Princess Mia crossed the rainbow bridge a few years ago and her mama was ready to let go of her shirts. She asked for a memorial pillow. I think Mia would approve. 🩷🐩πŸͺ‘🧡

It's always such an honor to do these memorial projects. This one is headed to NY. The table topper turned out better then I expected. With the scraps I was able to make the usual matching coasters and heart ornaments. This time I used the inner felt liners from the ties and thin scraps to create a quilted piece. I love how it all turned out!

On a whim last night, I made this little ribbon rose to accompany a recent Etsy order. I get so much joy out of preparing the gifts that accompany every order I receive. ❀️😊 Spreading unexpected smiles is what keeps me & La Dame Creates going.

Over the weekend I attended the 50th Annual Denver March Powwow and was elated to see a vendor set up with bolts of fabric and a cutting mat. It's always bittersweet when I come across an unexpected find like this. But it gives me an opportunity to share a little bit about those of us who hand craft items.

The dichotomy of hand crafted items and the cost of materials (not including time) is oftentimes restrictive and cost-prohibitive. The fabric that I purchased totaled over $50 and amounted to two 1/2 yard cuts and 1 full yard.

Those of us who create handcrafted items rarely recoup our costs. Creating things helps me cope with stress. It also just makes me happy to see something I made out there being used or, in the case of my dolls, cherished. Ultimately I want to put smiles onto faces and that, especially now, is priceless.

I don't know what I'll make with this fabric but I know I'll enjoy creating and hopefully, whoever ends up with it, will appreciate what went into it. 😊πŸͺ©β€οΈπŸͺ‘πŸ§΅βœ‚οΈ

Today two of my babies are launching out into the world - on their way to encourage and share a little hope; reminders that "They've Got This - They're Survivors." I have so much fun prepping orders. I love gathering up extra little surprises for them to receive. Ive begun including a Pinonyhead-themed laminated bookmark and vinyl sticker with every purchase of my Pinonyhead "Survivor" dolls.

Occasionally I receive a random request for a custom creation. This is my most recent project. My nephew does stunt work and works with his cohorts to make movies here in Colorado. He asked if I could make him a costume piece for their current endeavor. He provided me with a rough sketch and because I enjoy the challenge of creating something I've never tried before, I dove in. I quickly realized (After cutting the leather pieces) that his measurements didnt account for his shoulder width from chest to back. πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™€οΈ Rookie mistake on my part. Thankfully I was able to devise a solution. I plan to share a pic of him in costume later. Until then, I'm sitting here rather pleased with myself. πŸ˜† It only took two nights to complete. πŸ‘πŸ½βœ‚οΈπŸ“πŸͺ‘🧡

On a side note, between breaks on this project, I made a co-worker a couple "swiftie" beaded bracelets and about 10 "ch-l-m" bracelets for myself. πŸ˜‰πŸ˜ I was especially happy to finally use my little disco ball beads. I forgot to take pics. πŸ˜¬πŸ˜†

Thank you to everyone who visited my booth at yesterday's Sweetheart Festival Valentine Flea. It was a long day but I had fun. It never ceases to bring me joy - watching reactions of people who get great big smiles when they see my booth. My Pinonyhead Survivor dolls are always great conversation starters. To the woman who had us laughing when she said (in front of her husband) that he needed a survivor doll after being married to her - I'm still laughing - thank you! Laughter is good for the soul. 🫢🏾πŸ₯°

Scrapbusting when knuckle-sandwiches aren't an option! That's how i deal with challenging days. I whipped these two pieces out last night from one of my many bags of scraps. The girl piece is only about halfway done - I tried to be more intentional about the color choices and it's biting me in the backside (overthinking). The more colorful stripey piece started out free-form but clearly ended up like my brain - chaos (colors) and order (narrow, diagonal strips) combined into one. 😁😍

What would you do with them? Scrappy tote bag? Wall hanging? Placemat? Coasters? Book/e-reader cover? πŸ€”
