Carter Crafts

Carter Crafts Handmade custom knives for sportsmen and collectors since 2003. Carter Crafts, LLC is owned and operated by Mike Carter.

I began making custom knives in 2003 under the tutelage of master knifemaker Gil Hibben. Carter Crafts officially opened for business in 2007. I achieved full voting membership in the Kinifemakers Guild in 2009. I have made hundreds of unique custom knives for enthusiasts and collectors around the world. My goal is to continually learn and improve my knifemaking and to provide the highest quality products that I can produce.

Beautiful mammoth tusk bark ivory. In this photo you can see the layers in a section of 10,000 year old wooly mammoth tusk. Tusks grow in layers. The interior is creamy white and looks very similar to elephant ivory. The outermost "bark" layer often has beautiful coloring that may be brown, blue, green or yellow. The colors are caused by the tusk absorbing minerals from the ground or permafrost where it lay buried for thousands of years.
