In the year 1715, a Spanish Treasure Fleet comprised of eleven ships and one French "tag-along" vessel was blown onto the reefs off the east-central coast of Florida by a massive hurricane.
Eleven of the twelve vessels were dis-masted, broken like kindling and sent to the seafloor in less than twenty feet of water, taking gold, silver, emeralds, and rubies with it. Only the French vessel survived. Fast-forward to 1973, Captain Henderson and his mate, Butch Dawson, while on a dreadful nighttime run to the reef, inadvertently locate some well-preserved ribs of a sixteenth-century vessel off the coast of Cape Canaveral, and between those heavy wooden beams lay a king's fortune.
