New Mexico Book Co-op

New Mexico Book Co-op The largest non-profit organization in New Mexico helping authors and publisher promote and sell their books

The New Mexico Book Co-op is a partnership of over 1,000 local authors and publishers. Our sole purpose is to showcase and sell local books. We have organized a variety of activities that allow local authors and publishers to promote their books and to make them available for sale to the public. We also have created several alliances with booksellers to showcase local books. The New Mexico Book Co

-op has also arranged regular columns in several newspapers and magazines featuring local books. The best part of all these activities from the New Mexico is that there are no membership dues. Anyone interested in local books can join in this partnership and participate in any or all of our activities.

The New Mexico Book Co-op has launched a Help Center for authors and publishers during this Covid-19 epidemic. Authors or publishers are being impacted by this health crisis, in that stores have been curtailing their operations, libraries and schools are being closed, and the very livelihood of author and publishers is being threatened on a daily basis. The Book Co-op is not a place to dispense medical information for people impacted by the coronavirus but it can help connect people who are in need. People who need help in getting things, supplies, etc, can post such requests are a way of reaching out to others who might be able to help. Email us at [email protected] for further information and to sign up for the Book Co-op newsletter.

I recently found “The Storied Life of A. J. FiKRY” by Gabriel Zevin on Amazon. It’s a great fun and an even better read. If we can’t recommend or find our own or our friends’ books, I say to look for it on Amazon or even eBay. — Peggy Herrington

Share with your fellow Co-opers
----------
As most of us may end up sheltering-in-place for a while, we might consider using this vehicle as a way to share ideas with each other on how to keep our books alive in this troubled period as well as ways to help each other be prepared for this solitary experience. If you have ideas that you would like to share please email them to me and I will include any appropriate content with everyone. Let's truly share and not clog this up with conspiracy theories or partisan politics, but rather things, stories, ideas that might help each of us get through this as unscathed as possible. You can also submit requests for help and they will be shared. Use this as a way to reach out to our 1,500 person family.

NM Book Co-op Meetings Cancelled
----------
Due to the constantly changing world we are facing, the organizers of the New Mexico Book Co-op have been following very closely the announcements from the government and health officials. New Mexico's health secretary issued an order today prohibiting mass gatherings of 100 people or more in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Although our meetings do not always reach that large of a crowd, we would rather err on the side of good judgment.

As such, we will be suspending all NM Book Co-op meetings until further notice. If you have been following the news, you are aware that NBA and NFL games, NCAA and high school tournaments, book fairs/festivals from Tucson to Bologna are being cancelled or curtailed. We would rather be safe than sorry and that goes for our members as well. We started exploring options for video-conferencing at our last meeting and will work to develop that possibility over the next few weeks.

As many of you know, we are right in the middle of our 14th annual NM-AZ Book Awards. That program will continue without interruption -- God willing! The deadline for entries is currently April 30 (and that is just 7 weeks away!) If you have entries for the 2020 NM & AZ Book Awards please mail them as indicated on the entry form (as there may be no meetings between now and then, dropping off entries at meetings will probably not be an option).
