"If you give a chimp a crystal, she might not give it back.

Researchers learned this the hard way. They gave quartz, calcite and other types of crystals to chimpanzees in a rehabilitation center. The apes responded with great interest, and the researchers ended up needing to trade large amounts of bananas and yogurt to get back the largest crystal. Others were never retrieved."

In an attempt to understand our own fascination with the shiny minerals, researchers gave some to chimps.

New HanaqPacha team member Roberta (aka Robirda Flock, Roberta Heneiro) making fast friends with Stripey on this morning’s walk.

Roberta showed up out of the blue a week or two ago and seems she’s decided to stick around.

We may end up bringing her to a care farm so she can socialize and be safe, but for now she’s fitting right in with the rest of the crew.

Looking for someone in the LA/SFV area for part-time help to assist with stocking, inventory, assistance with orders, etc.

This role is designed to alleviate some of the day-to-day responsibilities from me, but we’d ideally love someone who wants to stick around a while and grow into a bigger role so we can get a few days off once in a while!

Anyone ever seen a Record Keeper like this on Fluorite?

This comes from an old find in the Esperanza Mine, near Melchor Musquiz, Coahuila, Mexico. I am not a Fluorite guy but something about this random lot I came across in Denver spoke to me, and I added it to my pile without even looking through it.

Glad to know my instincts are still sharp! This one may go in the personal collection, at least for a while ☺️.

SHAMANIC PIPES 🌿| 𝐍𝐄𝐖! A new arrival of ceremonial pipes has just arrived!

These tobacco/mapacho pipes are hand carved from native, tropical hardwoods in a variety of styles — from basic, traditional designs to more intricately carved Hummingbird, Owl, Serpent, Jaguar, and Eagle pipes (among others!).

THEY HAVE LANDED 🛸✨ | 𝐍𝐄𝐖! These Quartz Crystal UFOs and Extraterrestrials come from our artisans in Peru’s Sacred Valley.

Each one is unique and hand carved from native Peruvian Quartz (and Serpentine). These are some of the coolest and most beautiful carvings we’ve offered in quite some time!

Saying goodbye to babies and heading out to Denver this morning for the Gem and Mineral Show 💎 .

I did it a little different this time, leaving a couple days later than usual but staying an extra day on the back end. I’ve had wild FOMO the past two days seeing all the posts from the show, but we’ll see how it works out.

Staff pic! Every night we do a little walk around the property. We call it “Night Patrol” and these guys absolutely LOVE it. Then we sit and enjoy the evening breezes.

These two are really good at getting me to stop working and have a little quiet time and presence, which is so important. I always look forward to Night Patrol 🌿🫶.
