โ๏ธDo you own one of these? Then read this! โ๏ธI decided to do another post about Albuca Spiralis because right now is about the time they look pretty dead ๐ป and people tend to give up and throw them away. Donโt! They are alive, just sleeping. ๐ดAlbuca spiralis โFrizzle Sizzleโ is a winter growing plant that goes dormant in summer. During dormancy all the leaves dry out and die back and only the bulb remains. At this point it almost looks like itโs dead but it isnโt!Like with most bulbs, it should be kept dry during the summer to let it rest. Excessive watering in attempt to bring it back to life may cause it to rot. The new leaves will appear again in the autumn once the temperature begins to drop. At this time the bulb might start splitting into two or more and you may be lucky to have a few new plants instead of one. ๐โ๏ธThe curling of the leaves depends on sun exposure and the amount of water the plant gets. โ๏ธ ๐ฆ Cool temperatures and little water encourage the curls to become more tight. ๐โโ๏ธ But of course like with many plants it is also dependent on genetics. ๐งฌ Albuca blooms during spring and sometimes early summer with pale yellow-green flowers and goes dormant shortly after the blooms are spent. At this point the leaves dry out and the cycle repeats itself. While Albuca does love sun, protect it from hot afternoon sun especially in summer. It has the same soil requirements as other succulents: it is best planted in fast draining soil with some coarse sand or small pebbles to provide good drainage. It is reported to be cold hardy up to 20F(-7C). ๐ฅถ PRO TIP: Leave the top part of the bulb peaking out when planting, no need to bury the whole thing. ๐ค Swipe ๐ to see this cute plant at various stages of its lifecycle: from dormant to alive. May your Albuca be extra curly this winter! ๐๐More useful care tips can be found under ๐ค๐ฆ ๐ฌ๐งช
