(Finished moving into a new place and looking forward to picking this little series back up. Starting with the worst place to be in a medieval zombie apocalypse.)
City of Lost Souls Part 3 - The Graveyard
The Graveyard is one of the city’s oldest surviving landmarks from the Long Night. Built at the time of the city’s founding, it has for centuries served as the final resting place of its noble families. Since its creation, however, it has also drawn the wary fascination of the city’s poorer inhabitants—children raised on stories warning them to stay far away, lest they be captured and sacrificed in bizarre human rituals. Tales of flesh feasts, soul-transference rites, and witchcraft said to have followed the first settlers from their barren mountain towns and famine-stricken villages still echo through the slums.
It therefore surprised no one when the cemetery was revealed to be one of the earliest sources of the undead scourge. Long before the unending tide of reanimated co**ses flooded the streets, the city’s militiamen formed a mob to root out whatever evil festered beneath the grounds. But as they approached the gates, they were stopped by a battalion of soldiers clad in the colors of the city’s most powerful noble house. Forced to turn back.
Within months, only a handful from either side would remain alive—the last, lonely inhabitants of a once-great city.
