Show of Hands... 🙌 Who made a difference in your life? Who gave a hand when you needed one? Who inspired you? Who closed the employment gap for you?

Most of us have had a mentor in our lives – perhaps a teacher, coach, or supervisor who made a positive difference by encouraging us to pursue and achieve our goals. They were sincere, respectful, empathetic, and a good listener. They were our advocate, our friend, they gave us helpful advice and cheered our success. They helped turned our hopes in to reality.

In honor of National Thank Your Mentor Day, we ask, Who was your mentor? Perhaps you’ve never realized until this moment this person was a mentor, and maybe they didn’t realize it either. Express your gratitude by tagging them in a comment below, or share this post with them to say thank you.

You may want to thank the mentors in your life by sharing your mentoring story in your own post, tag us, we’d love to hear your success story too.

"Whatever your life's work is, do it well. A man should do his job so well that the living, the dead, and the unborn could do it no better.”

“People fail to get along because they fear each other; they fear each other because they don’t know each other; they don’t know each other because they have not communicated with each other.”

“Not everybody can be famous but everybody can be great because greatness is determined by service… You only need a heart full of grace and a soul generated by love.”

“If I cannot do great things, I can do small things in a great way.”

In honor of I Am A Mentor Day, meet one of our inspiring mentors, Edward
Vicedo

Edward learned about the mentorship opportunity with 2 Hands 2 Employ through a coworker who was involved with the organization.

Having worked a wonderful 25 years in renowned restaurants in 5-star hotels, Edwards credits his success to the hospitality industry. “I know how rewarding a job in the hospitality industry can be and how you can create a successful career without having an education or years of experience. I wanted to help others get their foot in the door and have a great opportunity just like me.”

“My favorite part of mentoring was seeing my mentee smile and realize that there were more doors open to her than she had initially realized.”

"What most surprised me about mentorship was the vulnerability that my mentee and I shared with one another. It was one of the most challenging and rewarding aspects of the relationship. In the end, that vulnerability and trust allowed for rapid growth. Because we were both willing to open up, we established a mutual trust and learned more from each other than we ever thought possible."

“For those thinking about mentoring, this is a great opportunity for you to learn just as much as the mentee will learn from you. Every person is your student and your teacher.”

BONUS...
The qualities of a good mentor: authenticity, confidence, and being able to be fully present in the moment.

Thank you, Edward!

The holiday season is full of perhaps the most true demonstrations of hospitality all around. The weather gets colder, but our hearts get warmer. Cheer and joy are shared through celebrations, exchanges of gifts, cards of appreciation, and by small and large gestures of loving kindness. Hospitality is at the heart of our mission, and we are thankful for the community that supports us.
In the spirit of the giving season, we want to express our gratitude and appreciation for the value each of you have contributed to our mission. Generosity from the heart is the reason for our success and what keeps us moving forward. Not just the funds, services, time or inspiration we receive from our partners, but also the trust of our participants to commit their time and effort to our hands – both mentors and mentees. We are deeply thankful and extend to you our best wishes for a happy and healthy holiday season.
