"I remember staring at myself in a dressing room mirror a few months after Haley was born, trying to figure out who the girl in the reflection was. She looked like me, but felt strangely distant from the person I thought I was. I stood there, very still, for a good several minutes, willing myself to see past those tired eyes and postpartum baby hairs growing wildly along my part. You’re a mom now,” I told myself, “but not just a mom.” I tried grasping at any sort of concrete identity, but it all felt so elusive, so undefinable."

A personal anecdote on identity and a new name. On the blog today, friends.

“Swallowtail caterpillars have somehow made their way into our garden and chosen our little trees to make themselves into something beautiful. So often we labor with our hands without looking up to see what's happening beyond ourselves - the kale will be great for our smoothies, carrots for our oven. But these little caterpillars have been a humbling reminder that all of our work has been created to ripple outward regardless of what we do; suddenly the planting isn't just about yielding crop anymore.”

Scenes from our S/S 20 Collection and thoughts about our coming release on the blog this week 🦋

For our 5th anniversary last year, Clarence built me a raised garden bed. It's appropriately known as the wood anniversary, he said (love you, husband). I had just taken a gardening class with a dear friend and suddenly the one sunny patch along the side of our house brimmed with endless possibiliti...

"As we slowly begin preparing to lay some roots in a larger space, I’m reminded that everything we have is meant to be shared, offered generously to the people in our communities. Hopefully this means that a more spacious kitchen will allow for hosting more communal meals with family and friends, a larger living area more playdates with little friends in our neighborhood."

Some thoughts on the process of seeking home on the blog today. Thanks for letting us share our thoughts, friends :)

Our family has been given the unexpected opportunity to move into a bigger home this season, an abundant provision that we don’t deserve. We’re filled with gratitude, cautiously hopeful for a little more space, a little more sanity. It’s been so much fun walking through homes, imagining how we...

"I’m re-learning in this season of a seemingly infinite task list that the promise of the hustle is truly a facade; there will always be more to do and today will never cut it. Rest is an active choice, an active surrendering to our humanness - the inability and impossibility to ever do it all.”

A revisit on our essential, basic need to rest today on the blog, friends.

Lately, my 3-year-old has been engaging in a nightly battle of I don’t wanna go to bed. My weapon of choice has been threats of her Elsa Halloween costume heading straight back to Amazon with the delivery man (mamas, sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do, yes??). Her whining and inching towards...

"This trip felt like a step back and step forward into time all at once, almost like I could see my 25-year-old self with the clear vision of hindsight as my present self walked those familiar roads nearly five years later. It was a lovely reminder that there is beauty and abundance in growing up, changing with the passage of time."

Snippets of travel and rest as we navigate working motherhood. On the blog this week, friends!

A close friend’s wedding in New York last week was the perfect excuse for a mini-trip for our family, a timely getaway in the midst of a heavy season of soul searching. Though worlds apart from our cozy life in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains, New York still holds such a special place i...

"When I’m tempted to offer less of myself and fewer of my things to the people around me, my 18-month-old and I are more alike than I’d like to admit. The cry in my heart is also, “mine!”, the desire for control and autonomy the same. When I fool myself into thinking that generosity is passing off things we no longer use or need, I’ve also believed the lie that I deserve to go first, to withhold what’s best for ourselves."

Some reflections on generosity on the blog today, a lesson we continue to learn. Link below, friends :)

We’ve officially entered toddler land, where things nosedive from sweet to sour in about .5 seconds. This morning: a perfectly pleasant morning at our local park followed by a full-blown tantrum once we pulled into the driveway two minutes later. The cause? Will never know, haha. We’re also navi...
