I never thought I'd write to you all to so directly ask for your support, but here we are. These past few months of economic uncertainty and inflation have been tough on our business. Sales numbers have slowed to the point that I'm having to make impossible decisions that affect every one of our employees. Maybe this is naive of me, but I'm shocked by how much the downturn could affect our business.
We rarely run sales because discounts aren't built into our business model. We pay our employees fair wages, make our products here in the US, and use certified sustainably-forested wood. Because of this, we're not the cheapest on the market, but I never wanted to build a business that compromised my standards and raced its way to the bottom.
I know that everyone is feeling the uncertainty and that you may be spending less because of it. Every retail business is going through it right now, even the world's largest retailers, but it's the small, independent businesses that risk not making it through.
