ADVANCED SAMPLERS PART 7: Shown here is my seventh and final sampler in the series, showcasing punching with strips of wool!
This sampler features strips of wool fabric that have been cut into 1/4-1/2" strips and punched just like you would punch wool yarn. The beautiful wool I used was purchased from in Rhode Island. The look of this perfectly mimics the look of traditional rug hooking, which uses a bent metal hook to pull strips of wool fabric up through the front of monkscloth! Rug Hooking is the traditional rugmaking tradition that punch needle rug hooking is based on, and is still practiced today. I ran out of wool and so I supplemented this piece with some rug yarn and a fluffy novelty yarn for the clouds, which I think gives a really nice effect!
In case you missed my earlier posts...
Back in 2022 I completed an in-depth training with Amy Oxford to become an Advanced Oxford Punch Needle Instructor. Part of that process included completing 7 different 12"x12" sample squares of our own design, illustrating the various punch needle techniques that can be achieved with the 8 sizes of Oxford Punch Needles and the Craftsman Punch Needle.
This post is part 7 of this series!
