Mi Friducha Inspirations

Mi Friducha Inspirations Mi Friducha Mi Friducha is inspired by my love of Frida Kahlo, folk art and creating. I mainly create to share with family and friends. Peace and Love. Rocio

I always found folk art, particularly from Mexico/Central America, to be full of life and color. My love for Frida comes from her suffering, her strength, her voice, her art, and the list goes on. I also discovered the Crafty Chica, Kathy Cano-Murillo, and fell in love with her creations. I silently wished that I too had that talent of creating, especially Frida inspired art. Life goes and in 2007

, I somehow connected with that desire of creating and started to paint and transform. Several friends suggested I start a page to showcase and sell some of my pieces. I was apprehensive at first, then thought, why the heck not? My main intention is to exhibit my creations. I love to transform ordinary wares and create something full of color and life. The objects used are found in thrift stores, flea markets, craft stores and every other place in between. I let the moment, picture, person and colors inspire me.

I choose to always live with love and compassion. It has taken me long to find inner peace and finding love for myself. And learning how to stay within my inner strength and energy. I surround myself with the Love necessary to do the work and not take things personal. Not easy in times like these, but it helps keep me grounded and connected to ALL that is above and around.

I light this candle in the name of love because it was made with love and by a kindred spirit (we get each other) and who I love with all my heart. .velas Please check out her work! 😍🕯️🤩

The featured shero on this first day of Latino Heritage month is none other than
Emma Tenayuca (December 21, 1916 – July 23, 1999)!

Emma Tenayuca was a Mexican American labor leader, union organizer and educator. She is best known for her work organizing Mexican workers in Texas during the 1930s, particularly for leading the 1938 Southern Pecan Shelling Company worker's strike.

During the strike, thousands of workers at over 130 plants protested a wage reduction of one cent per pound of shelled pecans. Mexicana workers who picketed were gassed, arrested, and jailed. The strike ended after thirty-seven days when the city's pecan operators agreed to arbitration. In October that year, the National Labor Relations Act raised wages to twenty-five cents an hour.

Tenayuca became interested in activism and was a labor activist before graduating from Brackenridge High School in San Antonio. Tenayuca’s first arrest came at the age of 16, in 1933, when she joined a picket line of workers in strike against the Finck Cigar Company. After high school, Tenayuca obtained a position as an elevator operator, but she continued to follow her passion for human rights.
Two of her famous quotes: “Was I in a state of panic or fear? No. I was pretty defiant. [I fought] against poverty... high infant death rates, disease and hunger and misery. I would do the same thing again. “ I was arrested a number of times. I don't think that I felt exactly fearful. I never thought in terms of fear. I thought in terms of justice.”

always with me throughout all my transformations. She never let suffering and pain get the better of her and I won’t let it either. There is too much at stake to give up. You have to live with blind faith and trust. And go with your predestined flow.

I must share this most refreshing limeade ever! Blend lime juice from 5-6 limes with 4 cups water, add 1/2 -3/4 cup sugar (depending on how sweet you like it!) or any sweeter of choice and blend with lots of ice. It comes out frothy like milky but soooo refreshing and you can add some sparkling soda or vodka depending on your mood. Perfect for hot days like today with over 100 degrees. Stay hydrated my friends.

When will you have enough?

Today in the global climate strike millions of people went to the streets to protest against the exploitation of our mother earth. 🌎

Because the system is sick. The capitalist economic system we have is based on the exploitation of people and the earths resources in order to maintain economic growth. But there can't be infinite economic growth with limited resources.

This needs to change if we and our grandchildren still want to live on this planet. The exploitation of the earth has to stop. And we need politics that are actually serving the interests of the people, not the economy. We need and an economy and politics that restore, reforest, repair and heal the earth.

Let's stand up for a livable, sustainable and fair future for the earth and all beings living on it ❤️

How can you contribute to change:

-raise awareness
(on social media, in your family and with friends)
-protest
- join a ecological (or social) movement
-boycott products of big, polluting corporations (when it's possible)
-vote

This can increase pressure to make politicians and unsustainable (big) corporations responsible for their actions.
