"When I asked my 11-year-old son to help me unload dirt from our small pickup into his mother’s new garden boxes, his reaction was typical.

“Ummmm… I’m busy right now,” He said.

He was playing Roblock on the family laptop, wearing sweat pants and an old T-shirt, lounging on the sofa, feet on the coffee table.

“No you’re not,” I said.

There was a fight, moaning, excuses, the usual.

Moments later, we were next to a wheelbarrow shoveling dirt. He looked at me with flat eyes, his hood up, shoulders slumped, and said, “Why do we have to do this?”

I thought for a moment, because I’ll admit, it was a valid question.

Neither of us were all that into flowers or vegetables, or any of the things that would be grown in those garden boxes. But my wife, Mel, loves gardening.

I thought, and he waited, and finally I said, “When you love someone, you serve them.”

I went on, telling him that I want him to grow up to be the kind of man who serves his family, friends, and community.

“This” I said while gesturing to the dirt, and the garden boxes I built the weekend before, and the wheelbarrow and shovel, and the first of many truckloads of dirt we would unload over the next few weeks, “Is what love looks like.”

He didn’t like my answer. I could see it in the way he reluctantly picked his shovel back up.

We finished unloading the dirt. The next day, while I was at work, and the kids and Mel had the day off because it was between terms, Mel sent me this picture. Mel picked up another load of dirt and before she had a chance to unload it, Tristan voluntarily started working. When she asked him “why,” he shrugged and said, “Because I love you.”

I’d never been prouder of my son.

Dear ChatGPT, Tell me a story about a goat as if Jack Black is telling it:

Alright, folks, this is a story about the most badass goat you've ever seen. This goat was like, "I'm not your average farm animal, I'm a rockstar." And let me tell you, she lived up to that reputation.

I first met the goat when I was visiting a friend's farm. This little goat was just bopping around like she owned the place, and I couldn't help but be drawn to her. I asked my friend about her and he said, "Oh, that's Black Betty. She's a little wild, but she's got a heart of gold."

And man, was he right. Black Betty was unlike any goat I'd ever seen before. She would jump over fences, headbutt anything in her path, and even climb trees. I swear, this goat had more energy than me after a triple espresso.

But the best part about Black Betty was her musical talent. She had a voice like a combination of Janis Joplin and Robert Plant. Whenever she'd let out a bleat, it was like a soulful, bluesy wail that would give you chills.

One day, my friend had a big outdoor party and he asked if Black Betty could perform. Of course, she was more than happy to oblige. She climbed up on a makeshift stage, and let out the most epic bleat I've ever heard. And then she started to sing.

It was like the whole farm came alive with the sound of Black Betty's voice. People were dancing, goats were bleating along, and even the chickens seemed to be bobbing their heads. I don't think I've ever seen a goat rock a crowd like Black Betty did that day.

From then on, Black Betty became a bit of a celebrity. She started touring with local bands, and even got a record deal. Her album, "Goat Rock," went platinum, and she even got to perform at the Grammys.

But even with all that fame and fortune, Black Betty never forgot her roots. She would still come back to the farm to visit her old friends, and would always find time to give me a friendly headbutt.

That goat was a true legend, and I feel honored to have known her. Black Betty may have been a goat, but she was more of a rockstar than most humans could ever hope to be.
