Hey everyone: Desert Rat Leather on extended hiatus until further notice. We've had quite a few life changes happen and unfortunately that means I haven't been able to find the time and energy to use the workshop for months.

I'll be at the Prairie Creek Craft Market this Saturday! Bringing some of my neat experiments in marbled leather as keyrings and tiny notebooks along with the usual traditional western-type keyrings, small wallets, leather trays, and pocketknife sheaths. See you there!

Recent project: remaking a knife sheath. I was able to use the old sheath to draw out a pattern, which is always nice. Slightly modified to add another metal stop for the knife at the bottom.

While this is definitely not a good design choice for most sheaths since it can eventually damage the knife, the extra metal is necessary in this case. The owner has a history of stabbing his knife through the sheath. I'm hoping that the wet-molding on the new sheath will keep that from happening, but I'm not betting on it.

I do really enjoy working on projects like this. If you need a sheath remade, definitely send me a message so we can get that started!

Back in the states after a two week excursion to Cambodia! Still reeling from jet lag, but I hope to get the website back up to date within a week. Here's to new and exciting things in 2023!

In the meantime, check out this prototype cord roll! I put it together with this trip in mind, and couldn't be happier with how it performed. Hoping to make a slightly modified version for the shop soon.
