We believe that music has the ability to create positive change in the world, so we set out to ensure that our guitars do the same. We don't just build guitars, we provide musicians with a vehicle for expression while providing an entire industry with an example for how to manufacture guitars in a more sustainable manner.

There’s a lot happening in this build already… and we’re still nowhere near the final reveal.

But here’s a sneak peek at this MG Drop Signature, featuring ancient 50,000-year-old Kauri reclaimed from a bog in New Zealand, with dramatic grain patterns that create a wave-like texture throughout the one-piece quarter sawn body.

And from here, it only gets more custom.

The back will be finished with a hand-rubbed oil finish to let the Kauri speak for itself, while the top takes a completely different approach with a Sky Ghost Pearl finish applied through its own detailed finishing process.

A lot of prep. A lot of patience. A lot of details most people will never see.

But that’s exactly the point. 🤌

We met Henry Hyland Altenberg at the Chicago Fretboard Summit in 2024 and instantly connected. We’re stoked to have him repping this Rare Flamed Koa OG Drop Semi-Hollow from Born — featuring a mahogany neck, Macassar ebony inlay, and a custom Lollar HSS set.

Henry is a Chicago guitarist with deep roots in jazz and blues. He’s written and recorded with some of the city’s top players, performed across clubs and festivals, and shares his craft as an educator at the renowned Old Town School of Folk Music. Excited to have him apart of the Born family!

Some guitars have a little more weight to them.

This build was born from a loss—specifically, the Colorado Marshall Fire back in 2022. A customer came to us with a story, looking to turn something devastating into something lasting.

We used reclaimed green ash from the fire and finished the custom tailpiece with fire, water, char, and seal—an homage to the Shou Sugi Ban technique. It became a symbol of resilience. Of memory. Of rebuilding something meaningful from the ashes.

A One-of-One White Ghost Pearl Legend OD. This shred machine may look like a classy gentleman, but underneath the hoods it is stacked with features to unleash singing leads, crushing rhythms and allow you to play all day without shoulder pain. The body is chambered Port Orford Cedar with maple top and matched with a Honduran Mahogany body and Cameroon Ebony Fretboard. It features Seymour Duncan Custom Shop Overwound humbuckers, and a string-through handmade JP Woodtone solid brass bridge with Ebony saddles. It's light, articulate, and the fretboard is lightning fast due to our Asymmetrical D-shaped neck shape, bound fret design, and Born signature fret dressing.
