I lived in Denver for 10 years, and right down in the thick of things. I always felt a call to move somewhere new, after college, but it usually just resulted in bigger travel and then returning back to the city I built as my first home. I view my time in Denver in two parts: the five years before Boozy, and the five years after.
In the city, I always felt a little tinge of guilt for having this “nature-oriented” brand with only supplemental nature in my actual life- the seasonal camping trips, frequent visits to the river, running off to the prairie to spend time with my family in NM, and my ever-growing stack of plant and long-distance hiking books.
Then about a year and a half ago, my partner and I moved into our first little cabin in the woods. By default, my life shifted toward a different pace. Now, most “happy hours” are spent climbing trees and spotting our neighboring wildlife, or like yesterday, chucking hunks of wood like axes in battle... but truthfully, the immersiveness of nature didn’t deliver the initial burst of inspiration I was expecting.
For awhile, I just sat on the forest floor with my hands in my lap, sometimes holding my own head and heart, hoping the muse hadn’t forgotten about me.
In the city, I had to bring nature inside, find it in all the cracks in the sidewalk. But now I am fully surrounded by it.
And still, I can feel my creativity resurfacing, the same way spring seems to do in all of us. Although the target has moved and my zip code has changed, I still feel like I am building something that invites people into their own curiosity.
And if anything, I hope to inspire you to play with your food and go play outside.
Love,
The Boozy Botanist 🌿
P.S. Here is a little dose of "spring" at 9500 ft elev. Meet Foxy Cleopatra, she shows up almost everyday around 5:30 pm.
