Trout season is in full swing up here in the Central Adirondacks! The ponds are all fishing well, the streams are coming into shape and the smelt are running like crazy! We have a great stretch of weather coming up and no black flies yet, so now is the time to get out before our little biting winged friends make their appearance! We’re receiving more and more tackle every day and preparing for Pike and Walleye opener which is on May 1st… hard to believe it’s only a week away! Tight Lines and we look forward to seeing everyone soon! 🎣

With winter winding down up here we are thinking about SPRING FISHING! Trout opener is on Wednesday and even though the ponds will still be iced over we are starting to get our trout pond essentials in! We just got a delivery of Crawlers and trout worms and a good chunk of our Lake Clear Wabblers for the spring. We will start to get Pike and Walleye tackle in the middle of April. We also have NYS Legal Smelt dip nets in stock as well!

We have a big weekend on tap up here in THE ICE CAPITAL OF THE ADIRONDACKS! Our annual Long Lake Ice Fishing Derby is Saturday the 14th. The weather looks like it should be great… No frigid temps are forecast which as we know this winter that has been rare! The biggest question is, will THE QUEEN OF THE ICE, Aria Furlong be dethroned this year? She’s won the derby 2 years in a row and is looking to make it a three peat! We will be here until 6pm Friday night if people want to get bait the night before and will open at 6am Saturday morning. We will have large suckers, medium suckers, large shiners, medium shiners, fatheads, and rosie reds! We are putting on a season long derby here at Hoss’s so you have a chance to double dip on winnings if you sign up here before you hit the ice! Good luck and tight lines, everyone!

Happy Wednesday from the ICE CAPITAL OF THE ADIRONDACKS! It’s been one hell of a cold winter up here and the ICE IS NICE! Lots of good ice everywhere, fishing has remained pretty steady for all species and the folks braving the cold have been rewarded! This coming weekend is the NORTHERN CHALLENGE DERBY in Tupper Lake and we will be loaded up with bait! We will have large suckers, medium suckers, large shiners, medium shiners, fatheads, and rosies. If you want to avoid the craziness of grabbing bait in Tupper stop by on your way through Long Lake and stock up! We also have ice tackle, beer, propane cylinders, groceries, warm hats and gloves and anything else you might need for a great Derby Day! Tight lines and we look forward to seeing you!

Hopefully everyone has been able to dig out from the storm we got Sunday into Monday! Not a lot of change in ice thicknesses from the last post we put up. We now have around 12-15” of extra fluffy powder on the ice. We have heard reports of some slush in pockets due to the weight of the snow pushing the ice down. The Mike Norris Derby in Raquette Lake is happening this weekend and it should be a great time! Temps are forecast to be cold but that’s winter in the ICE CAPITAL of The ADIRONDACKS! We can’t wait to see everyone this weekend! The snowmobiling will be off the charts this weekend too! The trails are in awesome shape! Don’t forget, the derby we are hosting with Brookside Hops and Hoagies is going on and you can register up until March 14th! The final day of the derby is the final day of Pike season in NY!

Old man winter is really about to make his presence known! The longest sustained cold snap of the season so far is knocking on the door. Ice conditions are as good as we’ve seen in a long time up here in the ICE CAPITAL OF THE ADIRONDACKS! Snowmobile trails are great, fishing has been awesome, and the good times are rolling! We can’t wait to see all the diehards up here this weekend! Just remember whenever you’re recreating on or near the ice AN ABUNDANCE OF CAUTION is necessary because hazards can arise without notice. Happy Wednesday from the ICE CAPITAL of the ADIRONDACKS! The ice is looking good up this way even through the couple of thaws that we’ve had! Thankfully after the thaws we’ve had deep freezes to tighten up and build a couple inches of ice every time. The pike fishing has been off the wall up here as evidenced by the Big Mama from this past weekend! Perch fishing is picking up, lake trout bites have been decent to great depending on the day. But you’ll never know unless you go because you can’t catch them from the couch! We have suckers, medium shiners, large shiners, rosies, fatheads, spikes, and wax worms in stock. We have just about anything else you could need for a fun weekend on the ice. Beer, tackle, warm gloves, food, propane cylinders… you name it, we’ve got it! We hope to see you up here this weekend!

🚨 🚨 BIG MAMA ALERT!! 🚨 🚨 Just had a bait customer bring this ABSOLUTE UNIT of a pike into the store to weigh! Unfortunately he wasn’t signed up for the fishing derby ahead of time so he couldn’t enter her into our season long fishing derby! It would’ve been a tough fish to beat! 41” and 17lbs is a slammer of a pike wherever you are but it’s not a huge surprise up here! You never know when the next monster will swim by and eat your bait so you might as well sign up just in case!

The first post of 2026! Start the New Year off right with a trip up to the Long Lake area this weekend for a day or two of fishing! The panfish bite is picking up, lake trout are snapping and the pike, pickeral and walleye are hungry! We’ve been getting good reports this past week from some of our friends and patrons! Ice conditions are really shaping up! We have suckers, medium shiners, large shiner, fatheads, rosies and spikes in stock and we’re getting a delivery of fresh bait in Thursday. We look forward to seeing everyone this weekend! We open at 7am Saturday and Sunday. Be safe on the ice and tight lines!
