In the spirit of Christmas we invite you to join us in providing cheer and good wishes to the mission of The Little Sisters of the Poor in your prayers.

This year San Alfonso Retreat House has chosen the residents of Holy Family Home in South
Philadelphia to be our Giving Tree recipients.

The Little Sisters of the Poor are an international community of vowed religious consecrated to
the service of the elderly poor via a third vow of hospitality.
They strive to fulfill this vow by offering the neediest elderly of all races and religions a “home”
where they are cared for as family, treated with dignity and accompanied on their final earthly
journey.
Following the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church, all residents are protected from abuse,
neglect, and any and all forms of euthanasia. Compassionate care of the dying is the source
and summit of their ministry.
Founded in 1841 by (now) Saint Jeanne Jugan, whose mission was to care for the elderly, the
Little Sisters first emigrated to America in 1868. Today they continue to serve the needs of the
elderly poor in 20 homes across the United States, as well as around the world.
Holy Family Home in South Philadelphia was dedicated in April of 1973, combining three
previous Philadelphia homes under one new roof. Here the Little Sisters of the Poor continue
Saint Jeanne Jugans tradition of “making the elderly happy”.
The Sisters also continue Saint Jeanne’s tradition of begging, relying solely on Divine
Providence and have never accepted any form of permanent income.
In the spirit of humble service, the Little Sisters welcome the elderly poor as Christ himself and
serve them with love, respect, and the mercy of God until they are called home.

The Redemptorist Community and staff at San Alfonso Retreat House would like to extend belated, but heartfelt thanks, to our patrons, customers, and friends for the tremendous generosity you have shown during our 2022 Christmas Sales Event; as well as our Red Dot donation program.
Through your purchase of items from our Giving Tree we were able to donate at least one gift for each of the residents at Care One - King James in Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey. The seniors there were very happy to receive so many beautiful items to make their holiday season extra special.
Through your purchase of items from our Red Dot donation tables, we were able to make a sizable monetary donation to our Redemptorist Mission in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. This gift will aid their ongoing efforts to rebuild the community there so badly damaged by the eruption of the La Soufriere volcano in 2021.

We are so grateful for the love and support you show us and wish all of you a Blessed 2023.
