Dear Friend:
On Tuesday, January 10th, second+pch developer David Malmuth asked the Long Beach City Council in open session to reconsider their split-vote decision in December to halt the project. "We have heard from many of our supporters, we have spent too much time, invested too much money, and we owe it to ourselves and the community to not let this project die", stated Malmuth.
Over the last four years, the second+pch team has worked closely with city planning staff to follow a review and approval process. “We sense there is an opportunity to go back to Council members to see what compromises can be made. We think we can strike the appropriate balance,” said Malmuth.
Reconsideration of the project will require the City Council to vote to rescind their previous action. Then, a new hearing date will be set when the project will be presented to the Council and the public will be able to comment, as before. This could take place in the next few weeks..
This is very good news for the supporters of second+pch.
Our request to the Council is that the project be evaluated on its own merits as city planning staff and council members assured the second+pch team four years ago -- separate from other properties located in the SEADIP zoning area.
We send thanks to the many, many supporters who contacted us to decry the City Council vote on December 20th to deny the project. We know that the majority of the people in this city want this great project to go forward, and do NOT want to wait the 3-5 years that would be required to update the SEADIP zoning.
To all our friends and supporters, we send a big thank you.
