Join us May 7th for: Urban Fisheries and Warmwater Species with Rick Mikesell

Rick Mikesell is a Denver-based fly angler, writer, and guide focused on urban fisheries and warmwater species. He is Vice President of Denver Trout Unlimited, where he supports conservation, education, and community initiatives centered on the Denver South Platte.

Rick guides for carp and other species along the South Platte and Front Range waters, and he speaks regularly on urban fishing, carp on the fly, and access-driven angling close to home. He is a contributor to MidCurrent, where his writing blends field experience with detailed gear evaluation and thoughtful essays on modern fly fishing culture.

Professionally, Rick serves as Sales Manager and Southern Rockies Representative for Riversmith, working with wholesale accounts and overseeing website management.

At the core of his work is a passion for sharing the unique opportunities close to home and giving anglers the information and confidence they need to be successful.

Thank you for attending our movie night!

We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who joined us for our Fly Fusion Movie Night at Orvis Park Meadows! It was a fantastic evening celebrating fly fishing, community, and the stories that bring us all together.

It doesn’t happen often that the Fishing Managers and Fishing Lead all get the same day off… so yeah, they didn’t waste it.

Loaded up the NRS Slipstream 142 and floated a stretch of the Colorado.

Flows are still a little low, but the off-color water set things up perfectly for chucking streamers. The boys went to work—lots of aggressive eats, and one of those days where it just keeps happening. Armed with a quickshot Helios 857, Helios 906 & 104....The boys put in work.

They also put the Launch Pad Drift to the test up front, and it’s legit. Kept the line clear and out off the frame tangle free, which made a big difference when it came time to send long casts and really shoot line.

REGISTRATION OPEN! 🚨 Warm weather opens the door to some of the most exciting opportunities in fly fishing. On April 9th from 6–7:30 PM, join us at Orvis Park Meadows for an engaging presentation on warm water fly fishing with Nick Campos of SpiritFly Expeditions.

Warm water fly fishing offers some of the most visual, aggressive, and rewarding experiences available to anglers, and these fisheries exist across much of the United States. Nick will share proven techniques, reading-water strategies, and practical gear setups for targeting species like Largemouth Bass, Common Carp, and Bluegill.

The evening will also highlight how expanding the species we target during peak summer heat can help protect temperature-sensitive Trout fisheries by reducing angling pressure when water temperatures rise.
