Welcome to the page of Mary Gilbert Palmer, Jewelry Historian and Specialist in British Victorian Jewelry, 20th Century American Pieces, and Small International Antiques. I am located in S.E Needham Jewelers in Historic Downtown Logan, Utah. I hold a Masters of Arts in History from Utah State University, and trained in England at Sotheby's Institute. I have lectured in both America and Eu

rope, traveled to Italy with the London Society for a seminar on the Jewels of Rome, and completed the Short Course: The Victorians, at the Victoria & Albert Museum. My fine collection receives fresh inventory from frequent buying trips to Europe, where I carefully select each piece of antique and estate jewelry along with continental silver, vintage watches, diamonds and colored gems, costume jewelry, and one of a kind small collectibles. I began collecting while my 5 children were still in school in Washington, DC. Family vacations in the English countryside showed me that I could buy from small antique fairs there and resell in DC. It started with a single card table in the driveway at our home. I am now the resident Jewelry Historian at S.E Needham Jewelers

Only a small portion of my inventory is shown online (etsy.com/shop/marygilbertpalmer). My extensive collection resides at my Utah location. You are warmly invited to come visit when you are in Northern Utah. If you are looking for something in particular and you don't see it on our site please message us! We will happily try to accommodate your requests.

I thought that, this being Halloween, this item would be especially appropriate. This is a gold-cased pocket watch designed and executed by Rene’ Lalique in the early 20th century.
Decorated with moonstones to represent the phases of the moon, and with bats, the guardians of the night, this is a piece replete with symbols and portents.
Bats are an omen, not of danger, but of the inevitable rebirth of day. And the Moon, as goddess protector, shines in the darkness to light our way.
Plus, this thing is just plain gorgeous.
You’re welcome.

Victorian ladies often wore matching bracelets, both for beauty and symmetry and also to discreetly keep those lovely flowing sleeve cuffs in place.

Victorian wedding bracelets were a tradition from centuries ago in which a groom would present a bride with one of a set of bracelets to be worn at the beginning of their engagement. It was a great source of pride for the newly engaged girl to show off her wedding bracelet. The other bracelet was to be put on the day of her wedding. The bracelets were usually a wide golden band with some type of engraving on it. Women would often pass the bracelets down from daughter to daughter.

It's incredible to find a matching pair! New to our collection

Gold bracelets and bangles were popular throughout the Victorian era. They came in a variety of styles, including thin bracelets, heavy bracelets, and bracelets adorned with jewels.
