Howdy everybody, Brad here. Kinda long post? Let's talk about Spotify for a minute.
We've been on Spotify since 2014 and have seen vast changes to it over that span of time. Seeing what it has become in terms of their advertising choices, their artist payouts, and what their executives support outside of the platform has given us pause many times. Recently, while I was trying to navigate a pivot away from the platform, a musician friend informed me that although an alternative service might pay more per stream, the total stream volume never paid better than Spotify did and that gave me some perspective. If something so toxic could become so ubiquitous, could it be transformable into a gateway instead of a service?
Not knowing these things in 2021, we opened the store with Spotify and used it as a tool for listening in to what was fresh and new--not via it's discovery function but purely as the outlet for hearing what we were selling. In turn, it became a sort of inventory tracking tool for us as well. Due to me being an obsessive weirdo, I have kept a few running playlists of (nearly) all new releases that we have in stock and am very excited to finally share one of them with you. This playlist is maxed out (Spotify caps playlists at 10k songs) with nearly 600 hours of music in it. My hope is that you'll give it a save, press shuffle, and listen til you find something you like. Once you do, jump into the album it came from, press play from track 1 and see if you dig the full picture. If you like it a heck of a lot, get in touch about grabbing a physical copy. You'll be happy you did 😄
I believe Spotify should be the preview area, not the main event. If you find yourself returning to something again and again on there, don't you want to own it forever and support the artist in a more tangible way? We want that for you. Also, we're currently closed til May while we move into our new space and this is a great way to support us during our transition.
I can guarantee that no one will like everything in this playlist. However, I can also guarantee that everyone will like something in this playlist. I'm excited to talk about what you find in here. Link in bio!
