NFS: The making of the Damascus Ring. This was one of the coolest projects I’ve been asked to do, and I’m absolutely thrilled with the way this came out. I took 52100 steel 1/32” ball bearings and forged welded them together with 1090+Ni powdered steel from . I packed everything tight into a square tube, and forge welded them in a canister Damascus billet. From there, I ground off the cracks where it failed, and then drifted a 3/4” hole into the billet. After it cooled, I cleaned up the inner band with a Dremel to get it to the right size. I then used a cutoff wheel to cutout the outside of the ring before starting to grind it. I used a Dremel cutoff wheel attached to my drill press to carve in the accent line, and then heat treated it. After that, I got it polished back up and soldered a 26 gauge piece 925 silver into a band to insert into the inner band. I then used a set of larger ball bearings to roll over the steel. Polished it up and customized a ring box. While taking the formal photos, I got visited by a mama deer and a fawn that came to see what I was working on. Super cool sign and blessing for this project.

NFS: 1/32” Ball Bearings & 1090+Ni powder forge welded together with an inner band of 925 Sterling Silver to make this wedding ring. Absolutely beautiful piece that I never thought I would make compared since my regular work is usually some kind of tool. Also a custom ring box to help keep it safe until the big day for the recipient. I don’t have any fancy machinery or lasers, so this is all completely done by hand. Let me know what y’all think.

New RR Spike knife forged out on the new Peter Wright anvil. The metal moves so much easier on this anvil in comparison to farrier anvil. No twist in the handle this time, but I forged in a little dolphin head pommel out of the spike head. RR spike knives don’t hold an edge as well as high quality blade steel, but they do look cool. This one is ready for adoption.

New Anvil upgrade! My little 70lbs farrier anvil has been great, but I was very fortunate to find someone rehoming a 200lbs Peter Wright from the late 1800s. This anvil was originally owned by Wells Fargo, passed on to the previous owner, and now onto me. Very thankful to have this piece of history.

Ball bearing canister Damascus billets cleaned up and now they’re annealing. Part of one is going to a wedding ring. So, what would you like to see me make out of these? Let me know down in the comments.

“All you do is post knives. Can’t you do anything else?” Well yes, yes I can. Now, I’m not gonna start doing glass art all of the time, but this was a really fun project that my kids and I did for their Mom for Mother’s Day. Both kids learned really well and did a great job. Onto the next projects!
