If you’re like us, the next several weeks will slip by so quickly, so go ahead and mark your calendar now for our next featured exhibit, “In Natural Space”, recent works by David Mudrinich. The opening reception is in the evening, on Friday, July 24, 6:00 to 8:00. We hope you’ll take this opportunity to meet the artist, and view his art, while enjoying light nibbles.
In David’s own words, about “In Natural Space”:
“Most of my time is spent outdoors in natural space. This current exhibit reflects work drawn from many of my experiences roaming within the Arkansas River watershed. The various physical characteristics of these landscapes can reveal a place’s history, culture and ecology. It can be like traveling in a time machine as I encounter abandoned farms, old growth timber and the visual results of geological erosion. But within such settings there is always the next generation of new life emerging, demonstrating an environment that is in constant change. Human figures rarely factor into my compositions. Instead, I focus more on their resulting attempts to give structure to nature in the form of gardens or apiaries. I find myself more likely to use birds or other animals to help narrate aspects within my design. The finished artwork may reflect an actual place, or it may be a collection of multiple places restructured into a new composition.”
David Mudrinich is a Pope County artist and professor emeritus in art at Arkansas Tech University. He works in a wide range of drawing and painting media concentrating on themes related to landscape and the environment. He has participated in over 120 exhibitions to date and has won 20 awards on both the regional and national level. Some public/corporate collections of his artwork include the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, Windgate Museum of Art at Hendrix College, State of Georgia Art Collection, University of North Georgia, Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas, Farm Credit of Western Arkansas, St. Frances Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria, LA and the Fort Smith Regional Art Museum. Over 100 works are in private collections.
“In Natural Space” will continue to be on display through October 17.
