“But whatever do you find to do here?” they had asked in unison.
When you are accustomed to riding in spaceships and looking at earth from afar, often, the everyday things seem rather mundane. Their voices seemed on the verge of being a bit disappointed.
They continued.
“We travel among the stars and the moon is before us, bright and beautiful. We see an endless sea that is painted black that our starship surfs on. Is there anything as exciting here?”
Their newfound friends surrounded them and had listened intently to their stories of exploration. At first they felt small, sure that what they had to offer paled in comparison. Inadequate…that was the feeling.

But the puppy with contrasting colors of black and cream saw in a different light. He cleared his throat.
“We too, see those same stars and moon. For us, they are like a blanket that comforts us in the night. They appear without fail and ‘though they may be far away, we still see them. And we have streams with moving waters that ducks can splash in and there are benches to sit on to watch leaves moving in trees, because there are breezes that whisper there. And when there are no winds, there is still movement, because squirrels play among them. There are buildings that hold art and museums that contain history of where we’ve been and how we got to where we are now. There are places ready to serve you fresh food. Not food from a pouch. And lastly, and most importantly, see all of them?” And with a sweep of his paw indicated those who had remained quiet.. “My friends are here. There are differences, yes. But I think if I were able to trade places and walk among the stars, I would t. I would choose here. Over and over again.

A day with frog.
There should be no other kind of day. For a day without frog, would be a day short of sunshine. A day void of adventure. A bereft kind of day.

And because it was the first day of summer, and one should always start off on the right foot to begin anything, he joined them. He inconspicuously, became one of fifteen. It’s easy to fit in when you are little…

He sat on dashboards cloud watching, where someone with as big an imagination as he, pointed out shapes he shouldn’t miss. He watched as cars bumped and steering wheels would not cooperate in the hands of inexperienced drivers. He was squeezed, hugged and tugged like pulled taffy in all the right directions that made him feel important. The moments just as sweet as the cotton candy that sat on paper cones. There were pretzels twice his size and he wondered if someone decided that all things on this day needed to be big…for every moment to him seemed huge and wonderful.
And when the day had ended, and his hopping legs could trudge no further, he settled back and thought, “This was the best first day of summer ever.”

Happy Monday!!! Exciting friends coming this week.
More to come…

Dad days.
He had the most gentle spirit and the kindest of hearts. They go hand in hand, I believe. He had big dreams and we would watch, sometimes incredulously, how he could get us there. He was famous for not stopping to ask for directions, he had the patience of Job, knowing he would find what it was he was looking for. That being a destination or a goal in life.. It was those of us riding along, that doubted. We shouldn’t have doubted. I know that now.

He was our, and I use that term collectively, cheerleader. He went to every game that we played in or cheered for-his kids and grandchildren alike. It made no difference the distance needed to be traveled.

Going the distance. In whatever form that word embodied. He didn’t believe in the word “quit”. Was not in his vocabulary. He would ‘t quit on projects…even if it required him using duct tape to complete. It wasn’t always pretty…
When I think of love and feeling safe, I always see him first. His unconditional love and his compassion and never ending patience. He was such a good dad.

To all of the dads, papas, fathers, grandpas and pop pops that have walked this earth, we are thankful for you. And even if you are no longer here, I think you still know.

Happy Father’s Day!!!

When flights are delayed and trains are inoperable. Or shipments in the big brown truck are waylaid and rescheduled for another day. It is good to remember that curves thrown our way and hurdles we are asked to jump over, are means of growth. And bottom line…they are part of life.
So when you view the night sky, and are in a different place then you thought you would be, enjoy the stars. You may not have arrived yet, but the moon...Is still shining…all for you. And that’s pretty awesome.

Coming next week…Amuseables peanut space rodeo outfit and Zodihop Luxe Buuny!

She had hidden herself among the paperwork, three tubes of lip balm and several gum wrappers at the bottom of the satchel. The papers provided the cover she needed. There was the faintest scent of mint mingled with another fragrance that was unnamable. It was a combination of flowers and fields, citrus groves and moss. All rolled into one. Perhaps there was a hint of vanilla, too. It was everything good and right, and it had seeped into the canvas, in the most desirable of ways.

She had tucked her wings around her with her intentions being a light nap…which however, turned into something more. Intentions are quite like that. They don’t always follow the plan set before them. But plans are allowed to be changed and rearranged…often for the better.

What she did not know was that the satchel’s owner had plans of her own. And that she was well aware of the stowaway that was secreted in her bag. She had intentionally opened the bag, invitations are like that. Open ended. They allow for choices to be made of your own free will. It’s so much better than trapping or coercing. She never closed the fastener on the bag, so that escape was possible. IF the creature wanted a means.

But she didn’t. She allowed this turn of events to be an adventure and she was along for the ride. Quite literally. For some reason, she trusted the lady with the bag. It was just a feeling she had. And gut feelings like warm chocolate chip cookies, are things you should never ignore.

There is always an upside. A silver lining. And sometimes a cookie or two…

The way things change.
They have since the dark ages when i had little ones under my roof and underfoot. Sippy cups leaked. Bibs didn’t protect the clothing worn underneath. Strollers, were really not good unless you wanted to move on even surfaces. Wheels were fixed and narrow and didn’t allow for going off road. No one would have been jogging with those strollers. And stuffies and clothing, both were stiff until they were worn and loved hard. The way things were.

We always wanted to give them the best that we could…even if in today’s world those things seem archaic. We carried kids on our hips and wore our hearts on our sleeves. As much as some things change, some things remain the same. Our hearts. Our love.
I welcome new products that make life easier. It allows for more mobility. Less restrictions. Less time to work. More time to play. More time to create moments and memories. And that’s what it’s all about.

Bibs, cups, blankets, and teethers are back in stock!
Things we are thankful for this Thursday.

In the morning she takes a snapshot and begins constructing with words. At times, words flow freely, and there is a pattern and rhythm to what she wants to say. Other times, there are obstructions, just like poor sunlight, makes both photos and phrases foggy. She struggles and wrestles with the words. She shakes her head and swigs coffee in quick succession. Usually a winning ticket. But not always…
What do soccer soaps and a stuffed can of sardines have in common? She ponders.
Both begin with “s”. That’s a start. Both bring enjoyment…just in different ways. Variety is the spice of life. Need I say more?

Happiness is…
Waking up to sunshine.
Having enough coffee beans for another caffeinated start…because we all need an extra spark to get going.
Happiness is the anticipation that you feel all the way down to your toes, knowing that family will be back home, by week’s end.
It is finding treasures when rummaging through old things that you forgot you kept.
It is the penned note from your mum that makes you smile and cry all at once.
Happiness is seeing others happy.
It is hearing a child’s laughter.
Seeing their wide-eyed wonder at the littlest things and realizing that you can still have that magical thing called wonder, too. It just takes turning off the adult-mode switch that has been turned on for far too long.
Happiness is unboxing snow tigers that beg to be held, snuggled, and loved.
They’re kind of like my grandkids…with a little less energy.

I saw the most beautiful clouds several days ago.
Clouds, like sunsets and sunrises, are never the same. I believe that is where the beauty is, in that they will never be repeated in exactly the same shapes, colors, or order.
Just like us.
I need to be reminded of this sometimes.
Even the fortune cookies feel this way.
