Did you know that September is the most common birth month? At least as far as the United States is concerned, 9 of the 10 most popular days to be born all occur in September. With that in mind, you probably know someone who is currently expecting or who has recently given birth, which makes *right now* the perfect time to shower someone with love!

And while we always recommend the gifter choose something from the registry if the recipient has take the time to put one together, we also recognize that sometimes you just need to take matters into your own hands and pick something that speaks to you as much as it does the recipient! After all, it’s your investment, so why not put a more personalized spin on things?

If you find yourself in the camp that avoids gift registries like they’re going out of style, then we encourage you to think creatively and choose presents that will withstand the test of time. Resist the urge to buy that adorable baby outfit and instead consider getting something with a bit more versatility…or, at the very least, that will be used more than once (because let’s be honest: half the clothes that babies get are grown out of before they are ever worn).

We love gifts that are practical (eating, diapering, bathing, sleeping, etc), promote learning (books, activity mats, sensory play), and can serve double-duty as functional decor or timeless keepsakes.

You really can’t go wrong when it comes to baby gifts…the only real exception to this being presents that put pressure on the parent(s) to care for the baby a certain way, like emphasizing nursing vs bottle feeding.

When in doubt, let the baby’s name inspire you…there’s no greater thrill to a new parent than seeing the name they chose emblazoned on a gift! So get creative. Have fun. And give with abandon as September comes to a close!

The college struggle is real this time of year. And students everywhere could use some encouragement. No matter how they appear on the surface, everyone is facing some sort of inner battle. It may be small, it may be catastrophically large, or it may be somewhere in between…but the bottom line is that the hardship exists.

Help lighten the load of a college student by sending some love their way. Let them know they can get through whatever it is they may be going through. That you see them. That you care for them. That you are there to help shoulder the burden even if you can’t be physically present.

We’ve curated a list of uplifting gifts, but the truth is that a simple phone call, email, or thoughtful greeting card can accomplish the same goal. When the gesture comes from the heart, the sentiment is conveyed with or without a physical gift.

04/09/2022

You might not know that April 10 is National Siblings Day…but if all goes according to plan, the next generation may very well come to know that date with as much familiarity as Mother’s Day or Father’s Day. Since being founded in 1995, the Siblings Day Foundation has been working tirelessly to have April 10 recognized as a federal holiday…and they are getting close! Governors in 49 states have adopted National Siblings Day by issuing gubernatorial proclamations, and the 50th state is currently pending ( we’re looking at you!).

The sibling bond is unlike any other - with countless shared memories from a young age, the relationship between brothers and sisters is forged in fierce loyalty, timeless tradition, and enough inside jokes to fill an Olympic sized pool. And while conventional siblings may not be present in everyone’s lives, it’s probably fair to say that each person has at least one soul sibling they feel an intense bond with.

So raise a glass in honor of and take a moment to celebrate all the brothers and sisters in your life, whether that connection to you is by birth, marriage, adoption, or kinship. We know sibling relationships can be complicated or sometimes even downright dismal, but we hope April 10 can serve as a day of love, forgiveness, and reconciliation.

On the heels of caffeine, our college care gift idea today focuses on sleep. Did you know that the average college student only gets 6 hours of sleep per night? And 60% of college students report that their sleep quality is poor due to a variety of stressors that are largely unique to the college environment such as homesickness, loud roommates, and increased academic responsibilities. Unfortunately, sleep problems and sleep disorders can severely impair the academic success of college and university students.

But don’t worry - there are a wide variety of products that can help improve sleep. Natural supplements like melatonin, valerian root and chamomile can be found in all sorts of inventive forms like gummies, pills, drinks, patches, and even room sprays. And the sleep industry has come a long way from the days of simple eye masks and ear plugs…sophisticated gadgetry now abounds to lull even the most stubborn of insomniacs into blissful slumber.

Get ready to knock back a few cold ones because today is National Beer Day! You might be asking yourself “why today of all days?” And the answer is quite simple: on April 7, 1933, FDR repealed the 18th amendment which effectively ended Prohibition. As you can imagine, after 13 long years of alcohol being deemed illegal to make/sell for the masses during a time that was already fraught with hardship, the freedom to finally sip a beer again wherever and whenever one pleased must have been akin to being reunited with a long lost friend.

At exactly 12:01am on this day 89 years ago, President Roosevelt is famously quoted as having said “I think this would be a good time for a beer.” For such an historic event, Anheuser-Busch delivered beer to the White House on their very own horse-drawn carriage pulled by their iconic Clydesdales which were assembled for the very first time to commemorate this occasion.

The gift guide we’ve curated today takes its cues from the social enjoyment of beer. Whether it’s an adornment for a wall, an upscale charcuterie board for a dinner party, or a portable table for a backyard barbecue, we’ve featured gifts that will speak to the heart of beer lovers from every walk of life.

For college students all around the globe, April is traditionally the toughest month to get through. With spring sports in full swing, campus clubs gearing up for end-of-year festivities, social circles cramming in as many gatherings as possible before the semester ends, and academic workloads escalating in preparation for finals at the beginning of May, it’s no wonder that students feel pulled in a million directions with no time to get everything done.

So while college is arguably one of the most rewarding experiences in a person’s life, it is also one of the most challenging…particularly right now. That’s why we’re going to spend the rest of this month sprinkling you (see what we did there? …April showers 😉☔️) with ideas for college care gifts that we hope will inspire you to send some love to a stressed out student.

Today’s college care gift idea is all about caffeine. The FDA recommends a maximum daily allowance of 400mg of this delightful substance which is equivalent to about 4 cups of coffee. And with caffeine providing the number one source of supplemental energy to college students everywhere, we’ve decided to start our gift guide by featuring a fun assortment of products that can help fuel all those over-worked brain cells.

🚨PRO GIFTING TIP: For a truly meaningful and personalized college care gift, we recommend doing a quick internet search for places to buy coffee on campus (or within walking distance) and sending a gift card/certificate to one of those businesses. Most colleges and universities will also allow you to add money to a student’s dining plan card so they have some extra cash to spend at the eateries and cafes that are operated by the school.

04/06/2022

Tomorrow is affectionately referred to as New Beer’s Eve because it was the day before prohibition came to an end. Historical accounts show that on the evening of April 6, 1933, thousands of depression-era patrons lined up around the block at the doors of their favorite drinking establishments as they prepared to imbibe legal brews for the first time in 13 years.

And so, while the official holiday to celebrate beer isn’t until April 7 in observance of the date that FDR appealed the 18th amendment, we decided that New Beer’s Eve deserved its very own shout out as it is a uniquely interesting moment in history.

In honor of those who patiently waited in long lines to legally immerse their senses in a frothy cold brew nearly 90 years ago, we’ve curated a list of gifts that are inspired by the taste and scent of beer. We also included a trivia game full of 140 interesting beer facts.

We’ll have another fresh inspiration guide on National Beer Day (April 7) that features all the best gifts for the true beer aficionado in your life. Make sure to follow us so you don’t miss a single glorious gift idea.

Feeling a bit lost on what to get Mom this Easter? Don’t worry - we’re here to help.

We like to take our Easter gift inspiration from the beautiful pastels and abundant florals that nature so generously provides this time of year. Spring is full of pale yellows, soft pinks and purples, baby blues, and minty greens…tender buds transforming into exquisite blooms…fragile new life bursting forth from the dead of winter.

And that last bit is not lost on us. Whatever your personal beliefs may be, we recognize that Easter is a time to reflect on the miracle of life. Of renewed hope. Of salvation from the dreary bonds of this world.

How fitting that this lovely holiday falls in early spring on the heels of what often feels like a never-ending cold snap…that just when it seems our faith has run out, the warm rays of the sun touch down upon the earth and awaken the slumbering life beneath the snow. Each crisp green frond unfurling from bulbs buried deep within the ground serves as unmistakable evidence that life can, indeed, come from that which has been entombed in the earth.

So while the happy pitter patter of bunny feet and the decadence of chocolate-shaped eggs make it easy to forget about the hardship of winter, we like to take a moment and remember what a privilege it is to celebrate Easter and the true miracle of life after death.
