While Christmas trees are our favorite, we can’t turn down the chance to tap a nice maple tree!

Our son & grandson tapped their trees too, so today, John is making the rounds picking up the buckets of sap and taking them back to the sugar shack. There, he cooks up small batch maple syrup that’s drizzled on our pancakes & used in baked goods all year around.

A few fun facts:

Did you know the sap was clear?
Did you know that maple syrup can be used in place of granulated sugar in most recipes using a 3/4 cup maple syrup to 1 cup sugar as a more natural, healthier sweetener.

This tree went home with its family the day after Thanksgiving. It was drinking water and holding needles so well, that they kept it up after Christmas and just took it down today.

If you’ve had your tree up since Thanksgiving and those needles are dropping…let us help you!

You can bring your tree back to us and we’ll recycle it. Even though the sign says January, we’re ready for your tree whenever you’re done with it! Just drop it off by the sign.

How do we recycle it: We mulch the trees up and put it around our living trees. The mulched trees act as fertilizer and put nitrogen back into the soil. This natural life cycle helps produce healthy trees for future years.

MYTH: Having real Christmas trees encourage depletion of our forests.

FACT: Most Christmas trees are grown in dedicated farms, meaning for every tree cut down at least one more is planted.

PLUS—-
Did you know that Christmas tree farms act as giant air purifiers?

One acre consumes 500 pounds of carbon dioxide each year and produces 1,000 pounds of oxygen. That’s enough oxygen for 18 people to breathe for a year.

We have 32 acres of Christmas Trees, so our trees produce enough oxygen for over 500 people to breathe each year.

Lets play a little myth versus fact, Christmas tree style:

MYTH: Christmas trees only serve as decorative purpose during the holiday season.

FACT: Our 30,000 trees provide food and refuge for insects, birds and small mammals year around. As the guys shook your trees before baling to go home with you, they found many empty bird nests that served as homes to dozens of baby birds this year.

The nest pictured here on one of our branches is a praying mantis nest. The nest is dormant in the winter, then when the temps rise to a consistent 70-80 degrees for a couple weeks, they will hatch. Praying mantis are great for keeping soil (especially in your garden) free of invasive bugs and pests.

After walking the fields, we have decided that today was our last day of the season for the choose and cut fields & precut lot. We can’t thank you enough for all of the holiday spirit, memories and merry conversations. Keep sending us pics of your trees! Seeing them lit up and part of your home is one of the best parts our jobs. We love being apart of your tradition and we can’t wait to see you next season!
