On December 17, 1985, President Reagan signs Public Law 99-185. The law authorizes the Mint to produce legal tender gold bullion coins for the first time in American history. The “Gold Bullion Act of 1985” states the coin must carry a “design symbolic of Liberty” on its obverse and a “design representing a family of eagles with the male carrying an olive branch and flying above a nest containing a female eagle and hatchlings.” In 2021, the U.S. Mint marked the 35th anniversary of the American Eagle Coin Program with a refreshed design.

Required inscriptions include: the coin’s denomination, weight of the fine gold content, year of minting or issuance, and the words 'Liberty', In God We Trust', 'United States of America', and 'E Pluribus Unum'. The coin is required to have a reeded edge. https://bit.ly/31myiqr

Saddle Ridge Gold refers to a significant discovery of gold coins in 2013, when a couple in California found over 1,400 gold coins buried in a metal canister on their property. The coins, primarily minted in the 19th century, were in remarkable condition and valued at over $10 million. The find, known as the "Saddle Ridge Hoard," is one of the largest and most valuable gold coin discoveries in U.S. history.

Check out the 1876-S $20 Gold we have acquired from the Saddle Ridge Hoard!
