Just sharing a local, growing business based out of Otis Orchards Washington. I have had the pleasure of dealing with the owner on several occasions and he is a great guy that runs a niche business of manufacturing oddball upgrades for all kinds of rim fire fi****ms. Earlier this month H&K expanded the line up of their very popular VP9 line with a compact variant, the VP9K. its meant to be a competitor to pistols like the G***k 26, double stack, 10 round magazines. Springfield just announced a new pistol to their lineup, the XD-E. Its a SA/DA hammer fired single stack concealed carry pistol that holds 8 rounds of 9mm. It will retail for about $520. We will see how well it fits in a already crowded market.

The ATF just put out a Re-explanation, to a 2015 Re-evaluation of a 2012 ruling on stabilizing arm braces for pistols. They are legal to use shouldered again! however, the ATF explains they always have always been and the ATF has been enforcing it that way, despite the conclusion everyone drew from their "clarification" in 2015. So, for those of you with arm brace style stocks, so long as you don't take proactive steps to alter the braces hardware to make it different than purchased, it is totally legal to shoulder, because using a tool incorrectly does not constitute a "resigned". below is a PDF of the ATF ruling.

FNH just released a "new" model of striker fired pistol. They call it the 509. This is the pistol FN Submitted to the MHS competition and was rejected late in the selection. I, as well as others had assumed they just submitted the FNS, however this was the actual entry, and if you don't quiet see the difference between it and the FNS your not to blame they are VERY similar. In fact it would be more appropriate for them to call it a FNS Gen2. its the same dimensions, same trigger, same mags but an once heavier with slightly improved grip texture, slide serrations and sights. It will MSRP at $650, which is $50 more then than the FNS. Given it does not break any new ground in a very crowded market the only way I see it gaining traction is for FN to discontinue the FNS and make this the only striker fired they offer, but as always time will tell. For those of you that are into the 80% lower craze in the AR world that enables anyone to legally put together a firearm without doing a background check with just a couple hours of milling work on a drill press or lathe, there is a company also doing these 80% lowers for G***k pistols that comes with instructions, bits and jig to do the work. If you add up all the component costs it really doesn't save you any money, especially since it is essentially a gen3, it more for someone looking for a machining challenge or wants their handgun purchase(s) to be as discreet as possible. check it out below.

Finally Beretta has announced the release of the APX to the public starting April 15. Another new gun that fell out the of the Army's Modular Handgun System competition that the Sig 320 inevitably won. It is a aesthetically unusual pistol that borrowing heavily from both g***k and the sig 320, but actually looks like it is unique enough to catch many shooters attention and at a MSRP of $575 is priced to be a competitive threat in the mid priced handgun market. Today the Army announced that the Sig Sauer P320 will be the weapons system to replace the Beretta M9 pistol that has held the loft position as the go to side arm of the US armed forces for 32 years. This news comes after a year of fierce competition in which the Sig was found to be the most reliable, mission flexible, affordably priced (the bang for the army's 560 million bucks) and capable to act as a training platform to use up 30 years of 9mm ammo stocks if they decide to move away from them and to a caliber like .40SW (my bet is on 9mm remaining the caliber of choice). Beating out competitors like G***k, a yet unseen by civilian eyes Beretta and Smith and Wesson. Check out the NRA's report below.

This Week at Shot Show, Smith and Wesson revealed the M&P M2.0 version of their flagship pistol line they launched in 2005. Much like G***k's Gen 4 release several years ago this is just a subtle optimization of the original design. The biggest differences are that they managed to trim 3.5 oz off the weight bringing down to 24oz overall, and making it among the lighted full sized pistols available. Next they upgraded the trigger which was a common complaint among owners previously. They also improved the grip and slide textures, barrel twist rate as well as the accessory rail, and finally they fixed a behavior where the slide would go home as soon the magazine was inserted. Despite these changes they designed it so that the magazines M&P owners already have will fit in the M2.0 so you dont have to re-buy magazines if you want to upgrade. Its launching in 9mm, ,40SW and ,45ACP in both black and FDE colors, with or without thumb safeties. All versions MSRP at $599, about $30 more than the original. check it out below.

There is a new pistol manufacture coming out with a interesting design called "Hudson MFG", its seems to be a striker fired 1911 with a low bore axis and recoil mitigation...not a lot of data on it now, likely to hear more at shot show next month. The YouTube video introducing it is neat to watch as well. Stay tuned.
