One of my followers pointed out that you can get the tubing from Stenparts. I never noticed that when I first ordered. Maybe recently offered? Anyways they are good people to work with and I have used them in the past frequently. It is more than enough to repair the Star 70b

Repair section material

4130 Alloy Steel Tubing is Cold Drawn and Seamless. It is widely used in the Aviation and Racing Industries because it has an excellent strength to weight ratio, it is very malleable and it is very easy to weld.

Talk about a barn find…
So I picked up this rifle recently, and it turned out to have a pretty interesting story—at least based on what I’ve been able to piece together so far.

It was originally built in 1987 at the Zastava factory in Yugoslavia as an M72 RPK-pattern support rifle (7.62×39). At some point it made its way to the Middle East, where it picked up the Al Quds (Jerusalem) crest and Arabic markings that appear to have been added by regional forces during that period.
It’s currently built on a D.C. Industries receiver here in the U.S., which suggests it came in as a surplus parts kit and was assembled later on.

I don’t believe the barrel is original—I haven’t been able to find any markings to confirm it—but headspace has been checked and is good.

What really caught my attention is that all the major serialized parts are still matching, which is not something you see very often with surplus Yugoslavian RPK or AK pattern rifles that made it through that part of the world.

I haven’t personally come across another one with these exact markings, so I’m still learning about it myself—but it’s definitely one of the more unique military surplus pieces I’ve had come through here.
If anyone has more info on Middle East–marked Yugos or has seen something similar, I’d appreciate any insight. Always cool to learn more about the history behind these old rifles.
