Living in this world while trying to live for Christ can feel so heavy sometimes. All around us we see chaos, confusion, death and destruction. Now don't get me wrong, we also see the goodness, mercy, beauty, and redemption of God but if I can be honest some days it can feel as if the kingdom of darkness is winning. That's why I love this verse in the book of Daniel. Here you have this man of God having visions of chaos so much so that verse 15 records him as being grieved in his spirit and the visions in which he was having causing him trouble. In verse 16 Daniel asks for understanding and God grants his request by allowing the visions to be made known to him. Verse 19 talks about the fourth beast that Daniel was shown which had 10 horns upon its head. One of those horns appeared greater than its fellow horns and made war against the saints prevailing against them. Did you catch that? This horn was prevailing (winning, triumphing, conquering) against the saints. That is until the Ancient of Days showed up. You see, regardless of what it may seem like, we serve a God who fights for His people and prevails against their enemies. We are not able to nor are we asked to battle darkness in our own strength but only through the power of God are we able to trample over serpents and scorpions and over all power of the enemy. Our God is a man of war (Exodus 15:3) and there is no power greater than Him. We are living in perilous times but be encouraged, the Ancient of Days is still on the throne and able to do what He said He would do.
