Lewes is Celebrating America's 250th in a Big Way!

As America approaches its 250th Anniversary, Historic Lewes, Delaware is already joining the celebration with special events, exhibits, and community activities happening throughout the year. To learn more about upcoming festivities, visit Lewes250. com and LewesChamber. com.

This celebration offers a variety of commemorative merchandise and keepsakes available throughout town. To the best of my knowledge, there are currently three official America 250-themed designs featured on merchandise in Lewes:

- The Lewes Historical Society and Greater Lewes Foundation design, available through their organizations.

- The America 250 logo featuring the historic ship and Betsy Ross Flag, designed by Michele Buckler of Sand N Stones and available at Sand N Stones on Front Street and online.

- The traditional America 250 design featured on merchandise available through Lewes Gourmet and Puzzles.

From magnets, stickers, postcards, tote bags, and lapel pins to flags, coasters, ornaments, and more, there are plenty of ways to commemorate this once-in-a-generation milestone while celebrating the history and spirit of Lewes — The First Town in the First State.

Now available at Sand N Stones—rare Delaware pictorial cancellation prints originally created for Delaware's 1987 Bicentennial celebration of the First State.

Designed through the efforts of Roger Keith and Gail Buckler, these collectible prints feature historic Delaware stamps, postmarks, state symbols, and landmarks, preserving important moments in First State history.

As the weather warms and festival season begins, this weekend is the perfect time to explore historic Lewes and celebrate our community’s rich maritime heritage during the Lewes Maritime Festival. Enjoy historic exhibits, waterfront activities, coastal traditions, local artisans, and family-friendly events throughout the Canalfront district.

Be sure to visit the Grand Opening of the Overfalls Foundation Museum and tour the historic Lightship Overfalls (LV-118) during Maritime Day at Lewes Canalfront Park on Front Street from 11 AM to 3 PM. For more information, visit Overfalls.org.

While enjoying the festivities, stop by Sand N Stones on the corner of Front Street and Neal’s Alley to meet guest artisan Holly Harris McCoy from 10:30 AM to 4 PM. Growing up along the Chesapeake Bay, Holly transforms decades of beachcombing treasures into beautiful Eastern Shore-inspired artwork featuring driftwood, vintage maps, and coastal creations that celebrate life by the water.

As Lewes prepares to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary, Michele’s design beautifully captures the spirit of the "First Of Fifty and The First Town in the First State,” honoring Delaware’s deep roots in American history and the enduring ideals of liberty and self-governance. We’re also excited to share something new from PUZZLESs on Front Street—a brand-new puzzle celebrating Delaware’s proud place in American history through authentic First Day Covers and historic postal cancellations.
