Migration in Process - 😊😎😎☺️ - No, if you're thinking we are referring to Title 42 (while its intended and unintended consequences are likely to be very significant) - Yes, we're talking about Gone Fishing Books (GFB)!
As many of our friends and customers are aware, GFB has not re-opened its doors since COVID-19 and has been hovering in storage.
Add to that fact, Founder Michael (MJ) FitzGerald has been in recovery mode from medical treatment. Resultantly, it is with great FB Fanfare we announce the transition has begun from the Foothills retail/storage/online to the writer/research base of Chapel Hill/Durham and, eventually, in some form (kiosk, perhaps), to the Outer Banks (OBX). In the interim, late this fall, GFB - keep your acronyms straight ; ) - will begin to offer online its inventory of new, hardcover business, organizational, and "how to" self-help books for both individual and bulk sales. Plan your clients' Christmas gifts now. We simply guarantee you will be pleased with your purchase.

Sidebar Note: Our first-rate "virtually new" fiction and non-fiction will also be migrating toward eastern North Carolina, with fond memories of the Foothills.

It's coming. Yes, it's coming. The Patron Saint's Day of the Emerald Isle. Now, put down the book(s) you have been reading. Consider the golder window of opportunity to hear live Irish music, with all its joys and yearnings. Whether the pipes and aires of the Gaels - the Celts who brought their music to teeming, festering, vibrant cities, the mills, the canals, and the mines, the misty hollows of the mountains - or the solitary, acapella tenor singing a ballad or elegy to a silent pub, souls and spirits will gather in his name, the good St. Patrick, and celebrate the cultural bonding of Ireland's Christianity he represents, here and "at home." Beyond the virtual marching pipes, there will be, for the seekers, live music in the back streets of Savannah, on the greens of Long Island, the alleys of New Orleans, the clubs of Chicago and the pubs of the Blue Ridge. Enjoy! And many a warm welcome to you!

If Covid confinement lasts as long as I suspect, Gone Fishing Books may actually launch its e-commerce platform for 4th quarter!!

Happy St. Patrick's Day to all planning to remember and honor the good saint. Gone Fishing Books, while officially closed, at its retail location, since November is planning to launch a modest, but rough comparison(and competitor) to Amazon in the 4th quarter. Bit of hyperbole there. All the best. Patience a virtue :)

It's official! Just spoke with the NC Dept. of Revenue yesterday, and, with the approval of recently filed return, Gone Fishing Books is an officially "inactive" account until the 4th quarter of 2019, by when a GFB official website may be ready to launch.

Friends and Customers,
With some mixed feelings, I am happy to announce Gone Fishing Books is transitioning to a new location (yet to be determined) in the future. Our Main St. location was closed this past week, due to the proprietor's (i.e., my) competing priorities in 'retired' lifestyle. GFB, in the interim, may occupy a bit of cyberspace after the 1st of the year - at least in the form of bundled topic offerings on Ebay, if nothing else. It has been a fun ride for three years (1 yr. on Boundary St., then 2 yrs. on Main St. here in Lenoir, NC,) yet I am excited for the resultant, improved family and leisure time.
A heartfelt thank you to the many, many friends, customers, writers, and locals who contributed books, counsel, and humor throughout the process. God bless, and stay in touch. Gratefully, Michael (Mike) FitzGerald

Mike FitzGerald, Gone Fishing Books' proprietor, will be on location Friday morning, Aug. 17th. Come by and find yourself that award winning fiction or non-fiction book of your fondest desire. Michael - on his way to Topsail Beach, is taking vacation from his working/vacation stint on the Divide - can help locating a particular book, answer questions, swap fishing yarns, or applaud your perceptive choice of author. (He's been reading Willa Cather this summer, btw, in honor of the Great Plains.) Come by and see us, then, on Friday, or at your convenience. The Highland Coffee House McDonalds are happy to provide access to GFB and will write up any purchases you decide to bring to your favorite reading chair.

Gone Fishing Books will be closed the week of 7-14 April (due to the presence of 'da beach') but not-to-be-denied booklovers may find me here at the shop on a happenstance basis (regular hrs next week,) before and after the surf. Regular hours, following the littoral, will resume on Thursday, April 19th, at 11PM. Come see us!

500 Writers Group met last night, with an (out of the ordinary) extended reading (500 words + plenty;) by Peter Stone from his new book "A Manifesto of Personhood." Peter tells us it is very near completion, and hopes to publish it on the web within the next few weeks(?!?) thus becoming the second publication since 500 Writers Group began this year.
