All the pieces got trimmed and put into the tumbler with burnishing compound for 2 and a half days. We unfortunately had a lot of rejects due to bubbles and pitting in the metal that wasn’t fixable. This is why we make such large batches; preparing for failed pieces. There’s always a percentage off loss to account for in every batch. The ones left that had minimal to no flaws look gorgeous. Last step is to add patina to most of the pieces after they sit overnight. These will be ready to post in a day or two ☺️☺️☺️

Another quench from today. Bright red is too hot and might result in cracking of the metal. I wait till the red is faded and the metal is cooled slightly after a few minutes. It’s still super hot!

Had the chance to record a quench from a casting yesterday. The metal is freshly poured and still super hot, so the cooler water boils quickly to dissolve the investment plaster away from the metal inside. Lots of bubbling ensues 😊

Dogū artifact pin in bronze. This neat little guy is a little replica of a humanoid statue that was found to be made in prehistoric Japan around 400 B.C. Thousands of these little clay figures have been found in Eastern Japan. It may have been believed that illnesses could be transferred into the Dogū, then destroyed, clearing the illness, or any other misfortune.
