Awareness Is Key in Survival Situations

You can often avoid a self-defense situation completely if you make the effort to be aware in everyday situations. By following these steps, you can prevent a crime before it even happens.

First, make sure you’re watching what’s happening around you – not looking at your phone. You might be able to spot a potential criminal just by what they’re wearing and their behavior.

Stay away from people wearing clothes that do not match the current weather conditions, such as heavy coats on a hot day or other clothing where weapons can be concealed.

Then, you should be able to tell by what they’re doing. People who are wandering around aimlessly or monitoring certain places should be avoided. They might be on drugs or waiting to catch an innocent enough looking person who isn’t paying attention to their surroundings.

If someone is very suspicious, don’t hesitate to call your local police about a suspicious person - especially if they’re just waiting around in a parking garage. The police will appreciate you trying to keep the streets safe, even if the person turns out to be innocent.

Really, it can usually come down to common sense. If people look suspicious, stay away. If people are doing suspicious things, stay away. Look around for other suspicious people who may be working with one another. Take note of their genders, sizes (height and weight), skin tone, clothing and hair style, and other distinguishing features so that you can report it to police.

Sometimes, you can prevent even more dangerous criminals from succeeding. If you see someone suspicious leaving packages around a highly populated event, such as backpacks and boxes, call the police.

Given recent events, they could very well be leaving bombs or other dangerous materials. This could also be a drug trade. You should also be wary of people trying to access areas that they’re not supposed to.

This can mean utility closets, restricted areas, and rooftops. This is especially relevant if you work at a company or office, and someone you don’t know is trying to get into sensitive areas of the building. You should also be wary of unexpected delivery trucks.

Watch out for any unexplained smells or packages - especially ones near HVAC systems. Leaving these unreported can result in a lot of damage for the company. While it might not be an attack on the building, it can be a gas leak or other dangerous malfunction.

Another warning sign for these areas would be dead animals concentrated around one spot. This means someone suspicious has planted dangerous chemicals, and this should be reported to 911 immediately.

Emergency Food Storage Is Essential For Disaster Survival

Most of the families are unprepared when it comes to handling emergency situations. The difference with food dehydration and canning is the use of sugars. Canning uses sugars but with food dehydration, you are emphasizing the foods natural sweetness.

Stockpiling your own food storage does not only include actual food items. There is also a need for you to have your own non-hybrid or heirloom seeds. Unlike typical seeds, heirloom seeds can be planted and harvest every year. Proper seed storage, however, is needed to ensure that your seeds would still generate the produce that you want.

How Do You Purchase Your Emergency Food?

There are a lot emergency food items and food kits available in the market. The 72- hour food kits contain items which your body will need for surviving three days. What constitutes an emergency and when would you need to worry about or consider the type of food that you would need in order to survive such a disaster? Natural disasters come in many forms: hurricanes, tornados, floods, typhoons, bush fires, to name a few. In times like this it is often in the aftermath of these emergencies that food supply plays a vital role. A disaster is either coming, or has already been. If one is lucky enough to be able to prepare for such an emergency there are a few things to do.

Should it be necessary for the family to be moved to the basement, the approximate time period needs to be taken into account. Another thing to consider is what kind of damage will be done to your home and will it still be functional as a home once the storm has passed? With this in mind, the basement should be stocked with a sufficient amount of fresh water for a minimum of 1 month.

Canned foods are obviously the best choice as the food in them can be preserved for a very long period of time. Dried fruits and nuts can be stored in sealed containers. Sugar, tea and coffee can also be stored in sealed containers. These containers should all be checked on a regular basis to make sure that they are still sealed and not leaking in any way and that the contents stored in them are still edible. Fresh water should be checked on a weekly basis and refilled. A water filter is great for making dirty water drinkable. Freeze dried and rehydrated packaged foods are also the best source of emergency food and can be stored for long periods of time.

produced by American hands. Oh.... Yes there is! It is time to think outside the box, people. Who says a gift needs to fit in a
shirt box, wrapped in Chinese produced wrapping paper?

Everyone -- yes EVERYONE gets their hair cut. How about gift certificates from your local American hair salon or barber?

Gym membership? It's appropriate for all ages who are thinking about some health improvement.

Who wouldn't appreciate getting their car detailed? Small, American owned detail shops and car washes would love to sell you a gift certificate or a book of gift certificates.

Are you one of those extravagant givers who think nothing of plunking down the Benjamins on a Chinese-made flat-screen TV? Perhaps that grateful gift receiver would like his driveway sealed, or lawn mowed for the summer, or driveway plowed all winter, or games at the local golf course.

Christmas is now about caring about US (We the People), encouraging American small businesses to keep plugging away to follow their dreams. And, when we care about other Americans, we care about our communities, and the benefits come back to us in ways we could not imagine.
