This is my process for setting up large pedestal urn vase flower arrangements for an outdoor wedding ceremony altar.

This technique makes this floral installation easy to transport and setup since it’s in parts rather than a single, large piece. This makes everything easier to load into the van, transport on carts, carry, and set up.

By attaching the urn vases to the pedestals with a metal rod, these are also wind-proof and won’t tip off the pedestal stand if they’re bumped into. For extra stability, I also attach a sandbag weight to the back of each pedestal stand.

Here’s another way to keep tall flower arrangements stable and in place on the ground.

Use an inexpensive brick paver to add weight to the backside of flower arrangements to keep them stable.

This helps if they’re on uneven ground like grass, if it’s windy outside, or if they’re in a high foot traffic area.

Make DIY floral arrangements at home with this tape grid technique.

This is the recipe that I used for this faux floral centerpiece design.

1/4 inch wide sticky floral tape
4.5 inch tall vase (5 inches in diameter at the opening)
10 artificial real touch white roses
10 artificial cream roses
12 artificial cream carnations

This method works with both real and artificial flowers.

If you only need to make a single arrangement for a floral centerpiece or home decor arrangement, a tape grid is an inexpensive way to create a DIY flower arrangement at home without having to buy more expensive floral mechanics like floral foam or chicken wire.

Learn the basics of floral design mechanics in 60 seconds. These are the common design supplies, often called “floral mechanics”, that professional florists use to create flower arrangements.

Doing DIY flowers for your wedding or want to start making flower arrangements as a hobby?

Here’s a quick overview of what type of flower foam to use, how to use chicken wire, and what the different types of floral tape are used for.

This is how to fix your faux roses if they arrive wrinkled or flat.

If you’re buying artificial roses for your DIY wedding flower arrangements or bouquets, they will often ship in boxes where they’re tightly compacted. This can result in the blooms getting squished and wrinkled, and they will need some prep before they can be used in flower designs.

To repair them, simply reflex the petals back to open them up. You can create a variety of shapes with this technique and it will help them look much more realistic.

This is my trick to keep tall flower arrangements from tipping forward or backward.

If a flower arrangement is placed on stairs, on the edge of a counter top, or a pedestal stand, wind or someone bumping into them can cause them to fall over. This is a way to anchor them down without any visible weights or mechanics showing.

This technique works for flower arrangements made with artificial flowers and real blooms, so give this method a try for your DIY wedding flower projects.

These are all the different ways you can style these types of large, tall flower arrangements at a wedding.

I have the full tutorial available on my page showing exactly how to make these arrangements, as well.

Use these are traditional ceremony decor lining the aisle.

Place them on pedestal stands as the ceremony altar, at the entrance to the aisle, or create a guest photo op.

Use them as sweetheart table decor or in front of the cake table.

Place them next to the welcome sign or guest seating chart.

Place a few on top of the bar or in front of the DJ booth (great for hiding cords and other equipment).

Create a tiered look with them placed along a staircase.

This is how to repurpose all your wedding ceremony florals at your reception.

Choose aisle decor designs that can be easily converted into individual centerpieces. Smaller, round aisle arrangements can be turned into low table centerpieces. Larger or taller aisle runners can be placed on stands and converted into tall table centerpieces.

Flower arches are great for a big aisle focal point that photographs well. At the reception, place large designs like this behind the sweetheart table or repurpose them into a guest photo op.

For any remaining floral pieces, create flower meadows in front of the cake table or the seating chart, at the base of the welcome sign, at the bar, or the DJ booth.
