These are Japanese Firefly Glass Beads (in Japanese, hotaru-dama or 火垂玉/蛍玉). These are exquisite, handmade glass "sculptures" (their word for them) made to adorn a kanzashi, a traditional hairpin used when wearing a kimono. We picked up a few of them in Kyoto, definitely take a look at them the next time you visit - they're absolutely stunning!

I recently went to Japan to visit the Miyuki Factory Store! Miyuki makes many of the seed beads, all of the Delicas, and Tila beads we sell. We made some wonderful contacts and bought some amazing beads. But the high point was just seeing the pinnacle of what (much more organized) bead stores look like!!! BTW, while they have some beads in packages, those you see in the jars you bring to the counter and let them know how many grams you want, then they weigh out your purchase!

We are FINALLY carrying TILA Beads! These 5mm tile beads are made by Miyuki of Japan and have two holes. They make amazing jewelry by themselves or as accents and additions. We're starting with about 20 colors (full TILA with about 10 colors in 1/2 TILA) but will be adding more. Definitely check these out!
