MRD Pottery The last couple years i have been “Playing in the Mud” so to speak. letting the clay show me the path to bring out it’s natural beauty.

Bringing life to slabs of clay, using my hands, not a wheel, I build mugs, platters, trinkets, candle holders, etc.

Today is the last day of the month! some of the pieces I have at Local Focal Marketplace may not be there tomorrow!!!! I have made a few candleholders ( they all have scented candles that go with them). Different sizes, neutral glazes. See photos below.
Tomorrow is the 1st of June. Cannot believe that in 30 days we will be halfway thru 2026. What things are you hoping to accomplish this year? What things have you already accomplished?????
For me, I have concentrated on getting knee better, which means slowing down, resting, elevating. For anyone who knows me knows that is one of the hardest things I am asked to do. Just cannot be still. Honestly this has been a tough 5 months. But I still have to do my pottery, it centers me, calms me, takes the knee away for a little bit.
So, will be focusing on something new for the next few months. Once I know I can do it and not backslide.….Yes it has a lot to do with pottery.

Just a heads up……FACEBOOK is encountering issues right now, some of us have a black screen when we use the app, we can access FB by web browser, like me. So until this snafu with them is over, (Have found this is not the first time this has happened, just the first time for me), will not post for a few days. This is why I haven’t in the last couple days. So very irritated. Will try to keep you updated.
I do have new pieces Local Focal Marketplace, so please check those out today if possible. This is 2 of them.

Morning and Happy Memorial Day to everyone!

Taking these to Local Focal Marketplace this afternoon! They are handbuilt Candle Holders, different sizes, some textured, some carved. These need to have candles that are in glass jars, you don’t want wax melting out of the wholes!
All of these will hold the middle size 1 wick Bath and Body Candles, just not 3 wicks.
I really enjoyed making these, and have a few more firing in the kiln.

Should be at Local Focal by 3 today.

Just a little new info from MRD….have started a new Page! It’s called Clay Creations and I started it to show how I create my pieces. This is new to me, learning how to do it alone, posting photos along the way as the piece goes from bag of clay, to slab, ending with greenware piece which dries for week or so.
Hoping to teach myself how to video everything, would be fabulous and a lot simpler.
So take a look at what I have done so far, please follow me on that page, share with your friends and feel free to comment, advice is awesome and just know this is something I have wanted to do for a long time. It’s important for me to let others know just what is involved in making something by hand. Hopefully I will have the videoing figured out with only hands showing since muddy face and clothes can be a little strange to see when the subject is creating!!!!!

Super glad that our area is finally getting rain but also super sad that the Coca Cola 600 weekend in Charlotte is right smack in the middle of the rain. A weekend that people plan for all year isn’t gonna be sunshine and warm weather but hopefully good times will still be had.
With that being said maybe a visit to Local Focal Marketplace for a little shopping is called for! Tons of great vendors including me! Just a few pieces of my hand built pottery will put a smile on your face.. these mugs are just waiting for new homes. Might they find one with you???

Sitting here in the wee hours of May 18th. Trying to figure out what is next on the horizon for me. Being a “Creative” person can be a wonderful thing. But it also can be difficult to separate who you are, and what you do. For those who have no trouble separating the 2, it is amazing. You don’t take things personally. You create, people see, people understand what it takes to do what you do, and they know how special hand made items are. After all, a little piece of yourself resides in them. Hopes, dreams, and knowing new homes await them.
But sometimes it seems you are the only one who understands just what it takes to get from seeing a piece in your mind, taking it through all the steps of creation, and sending it out into the world. And sometimes you go through wondering just why they are still waiting on the right person to go “oooh, I love this!”.
Right now, that is where I am.
My brain goes into overdrive. Did I glaze this the wrong color??? Is it not big/small enough??? Is the design just not working??
Yea, Creatives are thin skinned. They have, or I should say I have no control over thinking did I do something wrong??? Vicious circle.
So for now, I will have another cup of Chocolate Marshmallow coffee and contemplate. On me. And try to realize that life ebbs and flows. Right now, it is just stuck. Maybe it isn’t because of something I did or didn’t do. Maybe it is just a lull. Maybe I need patience. I will go look for some after this delicious cup of coffee, and hope for better days…

Local Focal Marketplace is where I took photos of my pieces in my space. I don’t usually do this because it can look very busy and I am not a fan business-ness.
Any way some really great pieces for all kinds of moms and since it’s 4 days till Mothers Day wanted to get these out for everyone who follows me. Have more Hearts coming hoping by Friday.
Just a FYI, my prices run from 15-25 for bigger trays and mugs. Small ring holders about 10-12.
