The Princess Knight by Cait Jacobs
I really enjoyed the story despite the second hand embarrassment of Princess Clia going to Caislean Costa, a military academy with no combat experience all for the slim hope that doing so would secure the Political marriage with Domhnall the prince of a neighboring kingdom after he rejected her for being too weak to rule with war on the horizon.
She with the help of Ronan, Domhnall's best friend and guard captain, learns both how to be a warrior and self-secured. Ronan on the other hand is there to prove himself to his hero General Kordislean, he starts training Clia in part because of Kordislean and mostly because he sees himself in her perseverance to prove herself. They both struggle with the political tension, war, betrayals, and falling in love vs duty to their respective kingdoms.
I also enjoyed the representation with Clia having sensory issue and trouble with unspoken rules, Roman's chronic pain and the normalized LGBT characters.
