Do they look alike? These are two different species the picture on top is rutabagas , bottom picture is purple top turnip.
The research and verdict is in rutabagas it is for tour food plots. Forage weight is superior to turnips, sugar content is higher and the builds don’t get woody. Rutabagas will survive the coldest of winters. Below is the nutrition comparison.

We are now in the part of summer where diseases are going to show up on your shrubs. If you are watering do it in the evening and water at the ground.
If you have diseased shrubs there are fungicides that you can use to save your shrubs. If you have any questions just message me.

Is the Southern Georgia Collard the variety for Chicot County anymore? I don’t think so, due to the fact that we no longer have 4 distinct seasons here anymore. So here comes Vates. Bates is a heirloom variety just like Georgia Southern, Vates is cold hardy to zero degrees and also heat tolerant and slow to bolt.
As gardeners we have to evolve when it comes to varieties, weather and insects.

After years of talking to biologist across the country and my friend Dr. James Kroll I’ll make the blend that is perfect to add to your cereal grains here. The mix will cover early season and all the way to the end of February.
The blend will include R**e, Barkant Turnip, Purple Top Turnip, Daikon Radish and Siberian Kale.

It’s getting close to food plot season. The cereal rye and winter peas are booked. I will be blending a new brassica blend for this fall. Some of the varieties will withstand zero degrees.

Monday-Tuesday 9 to 4
Wednesday Closed
Thursday 9-4
Fridays 8-12
Sat 9 to 12

We still have some aquatic work to finish is why the schedule looks this way.
