🔥 Thermocouple Thursdays! 🔥
For most supercharged, turbocharged and nitrous applications, exhaust gas thermocouples (EGTs) are the quickest and easiest way to monitor your engine’s performance. They show you if cylinders in your engine are running either too rich or too lean.
Typically, if a cylinder is too rich the EGT will be lower than the rest of the engine, while a cylinder that is too lean will show much higher. If the cylinder gets too lean, the EGT reading may spike upward, and then fall rapidly if the cylinder detonates enough to damage the combustion chamber, piston and/or cylinder wall.
There are thermocouple options offered to monitor manifold, head, and liquid (fuel/trans) temperatures.
