Classroom. Remember sending your kids off to school? It hasn’t been that long but for some, I’m sure, feels like a distant memory. Education for everyone is something we, in the US have taken for granted and assumed as a right for a long time. In coffee growing communities kids must work to contribute to the families income. Education is not a priority over food. Going to school is a privilege. Maybe these quarantine days of homeschooling Has given us a different perspective on the education once taken for granted in the classroom. via .app

Motherhood is hard. It’s hard no matter who you are or where you live, but for some mommas hard doesn’t begin to describe it. They gather wood, carry it home on their head to cook for their family on a fire so they have food to eat. They walk to get water and carry it home on their heads so their family has something to drink. They live in homes made of sticks and sleep on beds made of dirt. Seem extreme? It is. Extremely hard. But even so, moms keep going, doing the hard things everyday, because the little humans depend on them and they NEVER. GIVE. UP. even though motherhood is hard. via .app

Essential. Absolutely necessary or extremely important. What seems essential to you and me may be totally different to others. People living in developing countries often depend on what they themselves or their community grows or has on hand, to survive. Food & water. A lot less than what we might consider essential. So what happens to communities like this in times of ? No daily trips to the local market for fruits, vegetables and beans, no going to the neighbor who has a grinder for the masa to make tortillas. It doesn’t take long to eat the eggs, then the few chickens you have in your yard (if you’re lucky). Here food is bought for the day with the money from the wages the day before. What happens when there are no wages and the food you bought for your daily needs quickly runs out. People go hungry. People loose hope. In Guatemala 🇬🇹 homes that have run out of food are placing a white flag in front. A sign of surrender. A cry for help. A desperation that’s hard to imagine. While we worry about not being able to go to our favorite restaurant or if our Walmart pickup will have the toilet paper we ordered remember and DO SOMETHING to help those desperately in need of the essentials. Need suggestions for organizations making a difference? Hit me up in the comments, I can give you a few.

Not all coffee is good. Am I right? Give me one of these ✋🏻if you’ve had a bad cup of coffee. Bitter. Sour. You know, the kind that has to be more cream and sugar than coffee to be drinkable 😉. What’s up with that?? There is so much that can go wrong in the coffee process. Everything from plants with too little water, diseases or cherries picked before they’re ripe to processing, storage or roasting problems. It takes years of experience, resources and patience to cultivate a good coffee. A stellar coffee, like a cup of excellence winner or 95+ scorer is pretty much impossible for the average farmer. They just don’t have the resources, but what if every farmer had what they needed to make their coffee good? Farmers can sell good coffee for more money. Farmers can feed their families, send their kids to school and improve their homes with more money. Not all coffee is good now, but how would it change lives if it were? via .app

Personal touch. In this time of 6ft apart, social distancing, quarantine, shelter in place and staying at home the value of hands on is not lost. Hand shakes, hugs and high fives are more important than ever. Shout out to the people who spend their days hand picking coffee beans, hand weaving blankets or hand sewing a leather bag. Let’s not take for granted their personal touch! via .app

Home. How many days have we been at home because of Covid19, 30? 40?50? I’ve honestly lost track. After so long in one place it’s easy to focus on what’s wrong or annoying. Endless cooking and cleaning. Can’t escape the same people. Life is standing still. When you’re still you can also change your focus. Look at the good, the family memories being made, the slower pace and fewer pressures. A change of focus can change the picture. Instead of hopelessness you see seeds of hope that can change how you feel about your future. In struggling communities coffee can be the seeds that change someone’s focus, life and home. via .app
