✨ WALL OF WOMEN ✨

Behind every woman is another woman who encouraged her, inspired her, challenged her, believed in her, or showed her what was possible.

This June, Her Mark Co. is creating a Wall of Women a special display dedicated to the incredible women in our community who have left their mark on the lives of others.

🍃 Someone came to mind while reading this. Nominate her.

We want to know:
💚 Who is the woman you’ll never stop talking about?
💚 Who showed up when you needed her most?
💚 Who inspired you to dream bigger?
💚 Who quietly makes a difference every single day?
💚 Who deserves to hear just how much she matters?

Whether she’s a mother, wife, sister, friend, mentor, teacher, coworker, business owner, or community leader, we want to celebrate her.

To nominate a woman, send us:
📸 A photo
📝 Her name
✨ A few accomplishments or things she’s proud of
💚 Why she inspires you

All submissions will be featured on our Wall of Women at our June Her Mark Co. gathering June 27th Location TBA

Because every woman deserves to know the impact she’s made.

Submit your nomination by JUNE 20th through Facebook Messenger.

Let’s fill a wall with stories of women who leave their mark. ✨

🚨Name Change to Howie‼️Shop Kitty has been claimed by a neighbor and will now be known, publicly, as Howie, the occasional shop kitty with a deep meow 😅🤷🏻‍♀️🐱

We have a new manager from feline descent. Meet Todd, he’ll be happy to assist you with petting him and sometimes aggressively scratching you back, if you pet wrong. Todd is also available to follow you around and provide the feel goods during your shopping experience, if he shows up that day. Let’s welcome him to the team.

This is a normal conversation at the shop!
Also, If you come to visit looking all precious, we will cast you in a reel! That’s how it works around here.

Opening the shop on Tuesday mornings is the greatest!!! One of our favorites popped in for a chat just as our very sporadic Shop Kitty Todd came over to supervise. Come by to meet the sweetest cat and to see what we got growing!! Open 10-6 Tuesday-Saturday!!

Propagating pro tip right here!!!

Ever wonder why your grandmother's kitchen cuttings always succeeded in those amber medicine bottles while your Pinterest-perfect mason jars turn into green slime disasters? The secret isn't her green thumb—it's the darkness.

Here's what's happening in that clear jar: Microscopic algae spores are already floating in your tap water, completely harmless until light hits. The moment sunlight penetrates that glass, it's like flipping a switch. Those spores wake up and multiply faster than you can say "propagation station." Within 24-48 hours, they're consuming the oxygen and nutrients your baby roots desperately need to develop.

Dark bottles—whether brown beer bottles, amber jars, or even painted mason jars—block the blue and red light wavelengths algae needs for photosynthesis. No light, no food source, no algae party. Your basil, mint, and rosemary cuttings get clean, oxygen-rich water exactly when they're most vulnerable.

The irony? We choose clear jars so we can watch the magic happen, but that visibility might be sabotaging the entire process. Sometimes the best plant care happens in the shadows.

What color are your propagation jars? Drop a photo in the comments—let's see who's team clear vs. team dark! 🌿 [VIFCE]

Before you reach for anything, look at what you're actually looking at. Seven of the most common caterpillars in American gardens and yards — and the butterfly or moth each one becomes. 🌿

Seven transformations to recognize:

Black Swallowtail — the green caterpillar with bold black bands and yellow-orange spots on your dill, parsley, or fennel. Leave it. The adult is one of the most striking butterflies in the country.

Mourning Cloak — black with red spots and branched spines, often found on willow, elm, and cottonwood. One of the longest-lived butterflies in North America — adults overwinter and emerge in late winter.

Red Admiral — spiny dark caterpillar on stinging nettles or false nettle. The adult's orange-red wing bands are unmistakable.

American Lady — bristly dark caterpillar often found on pearly everlasting and pussytoes. The adult has distinctive eyespots on the hindwing underside.

Milbert's Tortoiseshell — black and spiny with yellow side spots, found on stinging nettles. Northern species, vivid orange and dark wings.

Cloudless Sulphur — smooth bright green, nearly invisible on its host. Becomes one of the most vivid large yellow butterflies in the US — common from the Great Plains to the Atlantic coast.

Tomato hornworm — the large green caterpillar with diagonal white stripes and a curved rear horn. It becomes the Five-spotted Hawkmoth — a substantial moth with pink and grey patterning and a wingspan approaching five inches. 🌱

Every caterpillar is a future pollinator. Observe before you react.
